Medan City might look quite poor, but Medan Capsule Hostel is like a hidden gem. The interior is very modern and you won't feel disturbed by the hectic life outside; it's perfect for business. This place seems to be very quiet, there are no parties going on here. It is suitable for solo travelers or groups, and also for families (there are also some private rooms).
The hostel is a little bit farther from the city center (four kilometers), but it is easy to get transportation here. Just install the Grab app and in a few seconds, you will find a ride. It is the best way of transportation here, because you will know the price in advance and you won't be scammed. To get here from the airport, you can take a taxi or a shuttle bus (it's around an hour ride). Be aware that during the peak hours the roads might be very congested, so try to avoid traveling during that time.
Bird Lake about one-and-a-half kilometers from here and Great Mosque of Medan is four kilometers away; several big and small temples are also around. Medan is more of an entry gate to Sumatra, and from here, you can travel to Samosir Island or do some jungle trekking in Bukit Lawang.
Rooms and Bathrooms
Rooms are very clean and modern -- one room can accommodate up to ten people, and each person will get his or her own capsule with light and sockets (with USB ports built in) and a locker underneath the bed. Rooms have different colors for men and women. Every room has an AC that works pretty well. There are no bedbugs, and no mosquito nets (not needed). There is a small window and each of the rooms has its own bathroom and a toilet.
Bathrooms are small or quite large depending on the room you will get. Bathrooms are very clean. There is a hot water and some soap. Toilet is of a Western type, with no squatting toilet. There is a hair dryer available.
There is a huge lobby on the ground floor. There are several sofas, chairs, and tables. There is a big flat-screen TV where you can watch local and foreign channels. There is no bar and no restaurant here. Smoking is not allowed.
You can get a free water refill, a free tea, and a free coffee. There is a breakfast in the morning and you can also use a beautiful and well-equipped kitchen all day -- though you will not probably need it , because there are plenty of Indonesian restaurants around.
This is a modern and clean hostel with capsules; it's got a nice lobby with TV and big kitchen available for all guests. There is also a parking place in front of the hostel.
