Selina is a famous hostel chain all over Central America; Selina La Fortuna is one of the most famous and well-known hostels, and it lives up its reputation by offering a top-quality accommodation with a great vibe.
The Location
It is located right in the center, only a block away from the bus station. There are many restaurants, bars, and supermarkets around, and the place is very safe in the evening as well.
Rooms and Bathrooms
It offers different type of accommodations. There are private rooms, tepees (which are similar to tents and accommodate two people), and dormitories. Dorms have usually six to eight beds with high-quality mattresses and bunks. There are plugs for each beds and lockers in the room. Rooms have both air conditioning and fan, so there is a great temperature. Bathrooms are located next to the pool area and toilets and showers are separated. Soap is available but shampoo is not provided in the showers. Cleanliness is taken seriously in each area of the hostel.
Common Spaces
The place has some of the best facilities for a hostel. A great swimming pool with clean water and a net in the middle, so customers can enjoy playing volleyball inside. There is a bar with tables and sofas and a kitchen free of use for guests. The facilities of the kitchen are new and it is very spacious, so more guests can cook at the same time. There are chill-out areas with hammocks and sofas all around the hostel. There is also a movie room where guests often hang out in the quiet evenings and a co-working space.
Selina seems to gather most of the backpackers visiting La Fortuna so it is usually busy enough to find other travelers and socialize. It's definitely a party spot during the weekends; it gets a bit quieter on weekdays but it is still very easy to meet other people, because everybody hangs out around the bar, the kitchen, or the pool. In addition, the reception organizes tours that seem to have a fair price, so many customers meet other guests by going on tours with the hostel. Unfortunately, free breakfast is not provided
Summary
All in all, the place offers some of the best deals it is possible to find in La Fortuna. It gets a bit noisy during the weekend, but those willing to have a quiet time can opt for the tepees, which are located a bit further away from the hangout area. The pool is really fun and it helps to socialize with the volleyball games.

• Catch a bus from San Jose (Terminal 7-10) right to La Fortuna. From the bus terminal in La Fortuna, it’s a quick walk to Selina, about 75 meters east.

• Check out the Sansa Airlines and Nature Air websites for all available national flights to the Arenal/La Fortuna airport (FON). From the airport, take a taxi to downtown Alajuela, Calle 8 between Central Avenue and 1st Avenue.
