Cacao Hostel is a relaxed and chilled-out hostel with a pool!
The Location
Cacao Hostel is only a short walk away from the main market area, where you will find loads of cheap, fresh produce and the buses that direct you towards Minca, Palomino, and Tayrona National Park. To get down into the main town centre, it is about a ten- to fifteen-minute walk. The main bus terminal is quite a distance away, but it's easiest to catch a taxi to get to the hostel.
Rooms and Bathrooms
The rooms here are large, spacious, and clean. Each mattress is very comfortable and each bed has an outlet to charge up your valuables while you sleep. There are larger lockers for storing valuables inside the room, and smaller lockers outside of the room as well. During the evenings, they turn the air conditioner on in the room so that you can sleep a little bit easier.
The bathroom adjoins to the room and is also spacious and clean. The shower head is good, but there is no hot water, as in most places in Santa Marta. If the bathroom inside the room is occupied, there are other bathrooms outside that you can use.
Common Spaces
The biggest common space in this hostel is the area around the pool, where there are loads of deck chairs, tables and chairs, and hammocks. There is a bar area here, too, where you can purchase drinks, as you are not allowed to bring your own into the hostel. Inside behind the reception area, there are also some beanbags and a mini book exchange.
The kitchen is large and well equipped for cooking anything that you may need during your stay here. Breakfast can be ordered and purchased for a fee, but is not included in the stay.
Summary
The hostel is a really nice place to set yourself up in Santa Marta. The majority of the staff are really nice and helpful with whatever you need. They can help you either book one of the many tours they have on offer (including the Lost City), or give you advice on how to get to different places to do it on your own. They also offer luggage storage for your things for when you get back.

• There is a bus from the airport to the city center and you have to stop on Carrera 5, and then walk for 10 minutes to the hostel (by bus is 1 hour).

• The taxi is costs 35.000 pesos from Airport (Taxi is about 40 minutes).
