Old Town Dubrovnik

Description

The Hostelz.com Review

Old Town Dubrovnik is an adorable, quiet hostel in the heart of the old town. It offers an optimal location and cozy rooms to any traveler passing through! The manager, Sergio, is sweet and helpful, but make sure to receive clear instructions for arrival to the hostel. Without a phone for Sergio to call or text, it can be tricky to locate and enter.

Location

The location is fantastic, right in the heart of the Old Town (aka King's Landing) with only a two-minute walk to most of Dubrovnik's top sites like the Stradun, Old Town Wall, and St. Blaise's Church. The hostel itself is a bit tricky to find because Old Town streets are a maze and there isn't a hostel sign anywhere outside. The entrance is also located almost all the way up the street, so be prepared to climb some steps!

Rooms and Bathrooms

Rooms are spacious and cozy with awesome brick walls and dark curtains. Beds are large and comfortable. Outlets are abundant and the Wi-Fi works well, but beware that it comes from the fourth floor, so it is not reachable from all rooms. The rooms are not equipped with lockers but the rooms remain locked. Overall, the place feels very safe.

Bathrooms are nice and well-equipped, with a towel and soap, but no shampoo provided. The water stayed hot during this reviewer’s stay, which was awesome. The bathrooms feel a little cramped; the sink and mirror are quite small.

Common Spaces

The only common space is the kitchen, which is located on the top (fourth) floor of the hostel. It can get hot up there during the summer, but the space is nice, with a fridge, stove top, toaster, sink, cutlery and dishes, and some spices all free to use until 10:00 pm. Laundry is also available, for a slight fee; it will be ready the next day. There are clotheslines outside every room window.

During off-season (October to April), the hostel is very quiet, which means that you might get a room to yourself, but it can also be difficult to meet people during those times. There is a larger hostel located on the same street, just down some stairs for people looking to make new friends or grab a drinking partner.

Summary

Old Town Dubrovnik is a great fit for those who want a quiet, cozy space to stay in the center of bustling Dubrovnik. While it does not offer the same amenities (book exchange, computers, instruments) that larger hostels do, it makes up for it in comfort and tranquility. One last thing to note: check-out is a bit early, at 10:00 am, but luggage can be easily stored in the kitchen for the whole day!

Excellent accommodation. Bozo is a super host, and he and his wife made me very welcome. PS. Hello, Sergei.
