Bunker Hostel B&B

The Hostelz.com Review

Bunker Hostel B&B feels more like a hotel with some dorm rooms than a hostel, but it does offer a decent stay with a particularly nice breakfast.

The Location

Bunker is situated in the major tourist area of Uyuni. Here, you can find myriad travel agencies, restaurants, and souvenir shops. The area is generally overpriced compared to the rest of the town. The local market is about a five-minute walk away. As Uyuni is a small town, pretty much everything can be found within a short walk. There are a number of bank machines; however, it's best to take money out before arriving as the machines can often be low on cash. The airport is about an eight-minute drive, while the bus terminal is an eight-minute walk away.

Rooms and Bathrooms

The accommodation is built into several stories, meaning lots of stairs to climb. There are many room options, from privates to dorms. The dorm rooms are clean and of average size, and the beds are comfy and warm enough for the cold Uyuni nights. A nightstand is placed between the bunk beds, which includes some shelf space and a power-bar for charging devices. Unfortunately, lockers are not included in the dorm rooms.

Well-maintained, gender-seperated, shared bathrooms are found on each level. Each contains the necessary equipment, including toilet, sink, and shower. The hostel also provides soap and toilet paper, seemingly a luxury in Bolivia. The shower water pressure is good, but don't expect a hot shower.

Common Spaces

Bunker Hostel B&B's primary common room acts as a bar/restaurant and can be found on the building's main floor. A large room with nice atmosphere, here guests can enjoy a drink in the evening and complimentary breakfast in the morning. Breakfast is buffet-style and consists of coffee, tea, bread, fruit, veggies, cereal, and scrambled eggs. It's quite a nice breakfast when compared to other hostels in Bolivia. Other common spaces include small seating areas found at the entrance to each new floor. These are furnished with couches, chairs, and sometimes a small table.

Bunker is not a particularly social hostel. As it's built much like a hotel, you don't typically encounter other guests outside of the bar/restaurant. Wi-Fi is decent but can get bogged down depending on how many people are using it.

Overall, Bunker Hostel B&B offers a fine stay in Uyuni. However, it is fairly overpriced, considering that private rooms at other nearby accommodations can be found for less than Bunker's dorms. The real reason to stay at Bunker is the excellent breakfast.
