Bunker Hostel B&B Reviews

Bunker Hostel B&B feels more like a hotel with some dorm rooms than a hostel, but it does offer a decent stay with a particularly nice breakfast.

The Location

Bunker is situated in the major tourist area of Uyuni. Here, you can find myriad travel agencies, restaurants, and souvenir shops. The area is generally overpriced compared to the rest of the town. The local market is about a five-minute walk away. As Uyuni is a small town, pretty much everything can be found within a short walk. There are a number of bank machines; however, it's best to take money out before arriving as the machines can often be low on cash. The airport is about an eight-minute drive, while the bus terminal is an eight-minute walk away.

Rooms and Bathrooms

The accommodation is built into several stories, meaning lots of stairs to climb. There are many room options, from privates to dorms. The dorm rooms are clean and of average size, and the beds are comfy and warm enough for the cold Uyuni nights. A nightstand is placed between the bunk beds, which includes some shelf space and a power-bar for charging devices. Unfortunately, lockers are not included in the dorm rooms.

Well-maintained, gender-seperated, shared bathrooms are found on each level. Each contains the necessary equipment, including toilet, sink, and shower. The hostel also provides soap and toilet paper, seemingly a luxury in Bolivia. The shower water pressure is good, but don't expect a hot shower.

Common Spaces

Bunker Hostel B&B's primary common room acts as a bar/restaurant and can be found on the building's main floor. A large room with nice atmosphere, here guests can enjoy a drink in the evening and complimentary breakfast in the morning. Breakfast is buffet-style and consists of coffee, tea, bread, fruit, veggies, cereal, and scrambled eggs. It's quite a nice breakfast when compared to other hostels in Bolivia. Other common spaces include small seating areas found at the entrance to each new floor. These are furnished with couches, chairs, and sometimes a small table.

Bunker is not a particularly social hostel. As it's built much like a hotel, you don't typically encounter other guests outside of the bar/restaurant. Wi-Fi is decent but can get bogged down depending on how many people are using it.

Overall, Bunker Hostel B&B offers a fine stay in Uyuni. However, it is fairly overpriced, considering that private rooms at other nearby accommodations can be found for less than Bunker's dorms. The real reason to stay at Bunker is the excellent breakfast.

Bunker Hostel B&B Reviews from the Web

Its an ok place for one night. Good breakfast but very uncomfortable bed. It wouldnt cost nothing to add a curtain in the shower, but whatever.. not sure that the staff is polite, they actually kicked out a group of Israeli guys waiting for a friend (guest) to go together for a tour.. I didnt like that. Just kindly asked to wait sitting on the couch at the entrance..

If youre looking for a cheap place to stay than this is it! Staff are nice enough but not really helpful and are very distracted. You can only pay by cash which is annoying. Bathrooms are ok. Overall just an ok stay, wouldnt go back.

Very friendly and helpful staff. Weird thing - there was no shower curtain in our bathroom. We didn't bother to ask for one because we only stayed one night. Comfy beds with lots of blankets to stay warm.

Enjoyed our stay, staff very helpful

Basic hostel, but fine for a night or two before your tour. Breakfast is nice, rooms are clean, but not much in the way of atmosphere or common areas.

Perfect stop off if youre tired after an Uyuni tour and just want to stay one night. Breakfast is outstanding and good value food/ beer in the bar. Downsides are WiFi doesnt work in the room and no locks on the dorm doors/ lockers so didnt feel secure. Also lacking atmosphere but that was what I wanted as I was so exhausted so it suited me perfectly! Short walk to the bus station.

Best breakfast I had in a hostel

Good hostel, clean and friendly staff.

The food is also probably the best in the town.

Avoid this hostel if you can the mattresses are very uncomfortable and the pillows are lumpy and my room was also missing shower curtain and the door handle on one side of the bathroom door. They also lie on there page since you cant actually use the microwave or kitchen and towels are not included. This hostel also have no lockers or locked bag storage since if you don't want to leave your bag in the room you can leave your bag in there reception however it is not secure at all.

Good value. Wifi didn't work at our room. Will recomend to anyone who is staying in uyuni, but why would you stay in uyuni.

AVOID! Easily one of the worst hostels Ive ever stayed in. Locked outside for 1 1/2 hrs when I arrived after messaging them the day before saying I was coming early! Also reception is supposed to be 24/7. Moved me and my stuff to 3 different rooms before I ever spent one night. The beds are uncomfortable, rooms are dirty, carpet is wet and stained, bathrooms have no shower curtains and are always wet. Breakfast is the only thing that was ok, just typical. Same experience for everyone I met there

Pretty good, no locks on doors and easy to walk through the front door though, also only small lockers in bedrooms. Uyuni is tiny so any hostel is in pretty good location but this particular one was right by all the tour companies and restaurants. Our bathroom flooded all the time and there were damp sections all over the carpet but otherwise relatively clean. The breakfast was really good toughhot drinks, yoghurt, fruit, bread, cheese, tomato and cucumber.

I had such a wonderful stay at Bunker Hostel! I booked a private room with a bathroom and it was very spacious and comfortable. Breakfast in the morning was included and was quite good. When I tried to use the hot water it wasnt working but the guy at the front desk was super helpful and changed the gas tank for me, and then it was perfect! Just a note that they only accept cash which I was not aware of in advance so keep this in mind. Thanks for an awesome stay!

We only stayed for a little bit after the uyuni salt flat tour from Chile. It was OK. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. However, the rooms are very basic and a bit lifeless. I wouldnt stay beyond 1 night in this accommodation. Good restaurants nearby and is In a great location.

Stayed here before&after the salt flats. Staff werent friendly on arrival. Both times we had double room but were asked to change to a twin room because the room hadnt been cleaned. Breakfast was good here! During the 2nd stay we locked out of the room (our fault) the staff was annoyed about this despite apologising. A large bucket of unmarked keys came to the room and began trying them in the door. This took over an hour which is frustrating but is ridiculous not to have spare keys!

Honestly a great hostel, super well located as well as offering cheap but delicious food and very good rates. Lacking (slightly) in infrastructure (powerpoints, bed lamps, bathrooms, ect), but it's Bolivia so can't really blame them

Disappointing. Not what we expected. The description and pictures are misleading. Very lacking in facilities- no kitchen or even a kettle to use to make coca tea when suffering from altitude sickness. The breakfast was ok. The restaurant was only open once in the four days we were there. The place itself is over about 5 floors and the stairs arent easy at high altitude! Very uncomfortable bed and pillow and basic bathrooms. The good thing is the location near restaurants and tour companies.

Bunker hostel was a good place to stay for one night before our tour to Salar de Uyuni. The breakfast was good and the hostel has a great location (but on the other hand Uyuni is a really small place). The staff could have been friendlier and we had to let water run in the shower for a while before we could get proper hot water.

Dorm rooms unlocked and security lockers are not in all rooms. Had to fight with water and plugins to make them work. Stayed here twice, overally lovely place. Would go back again.
