The Hostelz.com Review - Genuine, independent review you can trust.
Hostel Pochon has a small and intimate atmosphere and average facilities. It isn't particularly lively, but has a friendly setting. The hostel has a home-like feel, which means it's a great place to chill on a squishy sofa. The location is great, so if you want a laid-back vibe and don't mind lacklustre facilities, then this would be a great fit for your stay in Oaxaca.
The hostel is based around a ten-minute walk from Oaxaca's centre on a quiet side street. From the bus terminal, it's around a thirty-minute walk or ten-minute taxi ride. From the airport you can get a taxi or shared collectivo, which will take you a little longer. The hostel is well signposted from the street, though as it's on a side street, a taxi may struggle to find it. The hostel has a few local convenience shops nearby as well as bars and restaurants.
Rooms and Bathrooms
The rooms are not particularly modern or new, but the beds are comfortable if not a bit creaky. Blankets are provided for Oaxaca's cold nights. There is only one power socket on an extension lead in the middle of the room. Some of the rooms have no windows and can feel a bit dingy.
There is one cramped communal bathroom and shower rooms. There are two cubicle showers that don't have a lot of space in them. The water pressure in these showers is average, though the water is warm.
The hostel has one large, open-plan common space that incorporates a few areas. There is a TV space with comfortable sofas and some books. There is a computer by this space, which is next to the hostel reception. The central area has a few tables and it's where breakfast is eaten. There is a kitchen that has good facilities tucked away around a corner. Free drinking water is provided in the common area.
The hostel isn't very lively in the evening, as most people leave the hostel for the town. The hostel is friendly, but except for breakfast it can be hard to meet people in the limited common area.
Hostel Pochon is a comfortable hostel that doesn't have much to offer in atmosphere or facilities.

• Across the street from the first class Bus Station (ADO) is Chapultepec Avenue. Take the bus that says 'T y Palacios' • You need to get off at the 'Sanchez Pascuas' market. • Then take the first street on your right (near the BIG tree) • A Taxi will cost about $50 Pesos from the Bus station.
