Just feels right!
Best Hostel I have ever stayed in! If you are looking for something homey, comfortable, and relaxed then this is the place for you. Stayed here a week and a half in August 2014 and came to feel completely at home at this place. The owner is there often and the hostal really feels like a mom & pop operation, rather than purely a business. Any issues get taken care of quickly. Noise levels are fine and not a problem, but I found this hostal more social than others. Shower and bathrooms are good, air circulates very well, beds are comfortable and breakfast is included. The wifi works fairly well, and the employees who work here are always more than ready to help advise you in your travel plans. The common area is pretty and comfortable and the hostal has an open-air common space which really makes this place comforting to stay in. I also spent time in Casa Angel and found this place much more comfortable. Hostal Pochon is a short walk from the city center and is two-blocks away from a great late-night dining place that sells Tlayudas (traditional Oaxacan tostadas, great after drinking out).
Friendly but basic
Very friendly and helpful staff with big hearts but disorganised and a bit grotty. My reservation had been double booked so I didn't have the private room I'd booked but a dorm which was fine until it was filled with men. This sort of thing happened a lot as people seemed to be moved around randomly. There are better options.
Great hostel, had a good time. Clean and comfortable, friendly staff.
Great hostel, had a good time. Highly recommend it, especially if you like to socialize. Staff is friendly and helpful. I don't speak Spanish, but fortunately they have some bilingual staff. Fun place. I rented one of their mountain bikes to go to the ruins and had a great time. Highly recommend a bike ride to the ruins if you enjoy biking. Highlight of my time in Oaxaca, next to meeting some great people!
1 p.m. indeed!
Right, having to take the only available option to get from San Cristobal to Oaxaca, which is a nightbus, I arrived early in the morning. They say there's a twenty-four-hour reception, which I naively interpreted as the possibility of arriving early in the morning, if I can't help it. I rang the bell, a woman looked out of a window at the side and actually told me without any regret, that check in is at 1 p.m., before that she can't do anything for me. What am I supposed to do between 6:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. then, dead tired after twelve hours on the bus and exhausted? I left without further comment. I suppose they don't need guests given their good reputation. Another hostel took me in without any hassle just ten minutes later. That was really poor service, even though I'm sure the rest of their amenities are good.
Excelent Hostel, very good breakfast. the dorms are almost like a private room. just three minutes and we were in the heart of the historic center. they have very profesional Mexican cooking lessons! above all, it was very clean and the staff was great.
This is the best hostel I have ever been to. For only 50 pesos, I received more than any other other place. It is amazingly clean, beds are very comfortable and only 4 people in a same dorm. They also have a big equiped kitchen, a nice garden and friendly owners.
