High Tide Kampot has a very telling name that you might not get when booking -- it is the hub of getting high on weed in Kampot. While the premises are decent and the hostel’s location next to the river is very attractive, you might be put off by the amount of people walking around completely stoned from the late evening already.
The Location
High Tide has the perfect location; while it is only a short stroll away from the center of Kampot, it is also on the river, offering the opportunity for a nice evening swim. Moreover, it is on the road that leads directly to Bokor National Park with all its waterfalls and the ghost town. However, make sure not to miss the tiny sign indicating the turn-off to the hostel, as it is quite hidden and written in a very strange calligraphy.
Rooms and Bathrooms
High Tide has dorms of two completely different styles; one is a bamboo hut with three regular bunks that are equipped with mosquito nets, while the other one is in a concrete building and offers a huge number of beds in a capsule style. The bamboo one often sees small animals from the forest entering, so do not be surprised if you find a gecko on your pillow! The hostel used to have tents as well, but at the moment these are being transformed to more dorms. The bathrooms are in the concrete building and are basic but ok. There is only one temperature in the shower available though.
Common Spaces
The hostel is spread out over a huge area and even accommodates a tattoo parlour on its premises. In the middle of the property, there is a gigantic pool table that you are welcome to use free of charge. There is also a bar next to the river, and around it there are really cool sitting areas with hammocks, hanging chairs, and futons. There are some more private places to sit near the river as well. You are welcome to have a swim in the river, but only at your own responsibility and you will have to jump if you want to get into the water.
Summary
High Tide has a very specific audience in mind with its tattoo and motorbike scene as well as the weed culture, which means that you might feel awkward here if you are not into any of these. The location is five star, though, and the common areas are also quite nice.

• From town, tuk tuks are the best choice and will cost between $2-$3 (depending on how many people) for the 10 minute ride.
• Head along Teuk Chhou road and you will find us on the right side, approx 3 km from town. We are formerly known as blue frog.
