New Paltz Hostel Reviews

Poor ... don't waste your money.

Their a/c is out of control. The rooms are freezing cold, plus the staff stays up late watching TV and using the computer ... it disturbs the guests and they could care less.

Rough

I just didn't understand WHY did they not separate the men and women, it could be so easy. Seemed as though they wanted to make it an issue, while there was plenty of space. One of the workers stayed on the 'net all nite long outside of where the guests were sleeping, the door doesn't completely close, he was 2 ft away.

Good, clean, and safe

Nice, clean hostel. people were very friendly. Quiet with the exception of the adirondack bus parking lot directly outside the window ugh! Overall my impression was a good one, plan on booking another stay soon.

We liked the location of the hostel, and the staff person we dealt with was very friendly and helpful. But the price we paid for a private room was as high as a motel price; and it turned out to be filled with bunkbeds anyway. Also, the hostel is home to students at the nearby university, including one who was talking loudly on her cell phone outside our door at 3 a.m.!

We came in on a rainy night and they made room for us, with no reservations. It was nice and quiet and clean. The room we stayed in had a ceiling covered in artwork and poetry. I would definitely recommend it; in fact I'm going back this weekend!

Craig runs a friendly, clean hostel; I've stayed there on several occasions, and never had any issues with other guests. I recommend it as a first-rate place to stay.

This place had a warm and cool atmosphere, like being at a friend's house in a gorgeous region. I did not have the chance to meet Craig but his spirit is floating everywhere in the house. And Sho and Bud were wonderful guests. Thank you guys.

Immaculate and attractive, fantastic atmosphere, upbeat staff, convenient location in a terrific town that has so much to offer. My best hosteling experience ever!

Description

Nice home-like atmosphere with no smoking and no alcohol allowed inside the hostel. We have a community self-service kitchen, living room area with couches, nice front porch, bbq gas grill in the backyard, on-site laundry machines and much more.

New Paltz Hostel is owned by manager Craig Sheppard. Craig has traveled the world extensively and was introduced to hosteling at an early age. Traveling and spending time in hostels has given him the opportunities to learn and share with other travelers.

In settling down and opening New Paltz Hostel, Craig can "give back" to the many travelers that pass through this beautiful and cultural area of the Mid-Hudson Valley. Spending time in hostels has allowed him to see what is good in hostels. He has made New Paltz Hostel into a warm and inviting environment that is economical for all travelers.

We do not allow homeless people to stay here. We are neither trained nor equipped to handle their special needs.
