The Review

BlancaWasi is a mid-size hostel in an apartment block catering mostly visitors for one night, though it is possible to book a long-term stay by asking the owner. BlancaWasi has good Wi-Fi; is secure; is nonsmoking; and has an easy, friendly-looking charm.

The Location

The hostel is located one kilometer or so from the cathedral and its beautiful looking park. Within a twenty-minute walk, it is easily possible to reach the common bus terminals like Emtrefasa. In addition to that, there are actually two bus terminals right in front of the door. Furthermore, the location stands out because of the fact that there are many small shops right in front of the hostel where you can buy everything you'll need for your short-term stay at BlancaWasi. Lastly, of course, there are a lot of cheap eating places about a five-minute walk away.

Rooms and Bathrooms

There are only six dorm-bedrooms each equipped with a window, curtain, a shared bathroom, a few electricity plugs as well as four safes, which you can lock with your private lock. The beds are yet simple but very comfortable and particularly clean. In fact, there is enough space for everyone staying here -- there's not a power point or anything which stands out.

As already mentioned, there is one small, shared bathroom for guests, which does not seem like an issue. The bathroom is mostly clean (though the garbage can is full continuously during our stay) and is equipped with a basic toilet (though without a toilet seat), a shower that offers on-demand electric water, and a sink including a mirror.

Common Spaces

There is a common space on the roof where it is possible to use the kitchen. As well, as there is a separate reception, which the owner uses as a dorm room by himself. Unfortunately, the hostel does not offer anything like cold drinks, prepared meals, towels, a book exchange, or anything else. The philosophy seems to be that the guest only stays for a few nights, so it's not necessary to offer different goods. But this does not mean that the hostel is not a nice place to stay for a while. If you're looking for a quiet hostel where everyone minds his own business, this should be the right place for you. On the other hand if you're looking for a party hostel, you should definitely not book here.

You'll enjoy your stay if you make sure you bring your own stuff (like towels) and be prepared that there are no specials inside or outside the dorm rooms. Besides the negative aspects, the owner himself has to be highlighted as a very friendly and open-minded man who really tries to help the guests as far as it is possible for him.
