Qispi Kay is a newly opened hostel in a nice and quiet neighborhood in Piura. It really is the only hostel in Piura and therefore is a perfect place to meet other backpackers.
It is located about a 30 minute walk from the town centre, bus stations, mall, and the central market. It is only a five minute drive from the airport. There are few corner shops and restaurants around but the main attractions are in the centre which are easy to reach with a taxi or a little walk.
Rooms and Bathrooms
The rooms are good size but the beds are built like boxes and it can feel a bit claustrophobic. They are quite comfortable, though. It is very hot in the rooms and the little fan they provide does not do much. Some of the rooms have nice cupboards or drawers to store your stuff, but some rooms don't have anything. There are a good amount of power points to charge your devices. Unfortunately, there are no lockers in the hostel but it feels safe and the front door is always locked.
The bathrooms are a good size but they can be a bit dirty at times and the showers are terrible. The water is cold, which is not a problem because it is warm outside but there is absolutely no water pressure. It is pretty much just dribbling down and sometimes there is almost no water coming out whatsoever.
There is a nice terrace upstairs with plenty of benches to sit on and a hammock to chill out. They also have a bar there which is also opened for local people and it closes at 1 am. It doesn't get too loud though and if you want to sleep it's not a problem. There is a nice tv room on the second floor as well with a big tv to watch all the latest movies.
All the check-in and check-out is done upstairs on the terrace. There is an area for reception downstairs but it is not being used due to the fact that it is too hot downstairs. Also, there is no guest kitchen but they do serve food there. They offer a nice breakfast and dinner for a good price which is served upstairs on the terrace. You are able to store food in their fridge and they can give you plates and cutlery if you want to bring takeaway food back.
Overall, the hostel is still a work in progress and besides few small negativities it is a perfect hostel to stay and meet other travelers and locals. It has a great atmosphere and they really are trying to make you feel welcome and the people that work there and the owner are very nice and helpful.
