Hike & Chill Hostel is a small and basic but authentic-looking hostel in the small streets of Tingrir’s old interesting Jewish quarter, run to our experience solely by an honest young man. The house is clad in colourful local carpets and hides, accentuating its awesome, authentic and homey feel.
The Location
This hostel has a good central location in an old, traditional-looking neighborhood. It is close to mostly everything in Tingrir, except the local bus station, which is an hours walk away. Other (intercity) buses do stop close by, as do grand taxis. The hostel is hard to find without GPS, but if you find yourself without one, just asking around or a call to the owner on whatsapp will get you there.
Rooms and Bathrooms
With two dorm rooms and a private room, it can accommodate around sixteen people, keeping it just small enough. The bunk beds in the larger dorm room are a bit low, but otherwise is plenty spacious in its setup. Lockers are available for each bed. However, there are only a few power outlets per room.
There is a bathroom with shower on the rooftop. Another bathroom is inside on the first floor. Taking a shower with hot water is only possible if asked for in advance, since a fire needs to be stoked to heat up the water.
Common Spaces
The common areas are as nice and cosy as the rest of hostel. The kitchen is very small, but has the most basic features. That said, you might not need a kitchen in Tinhrir, as good, relatively cheap, not-touristic eateries can be found aplenty. The hostel has good Moroccan/Arabic-style lounge areas, both at the second and first floor, to sit, chill, and socialise. Wi-Fi is available throughout the building and rooftop. The rooftop is really nice, and seeing the mattresses there, you might want to sleep on the roof, weather permitting.
Summary
As the name suggests, it is a very nice place from which to plan some hikes and chill in between. It's good for socialising as well, but don't expect to party late. The rooftop should close at 11 p.m. and the young boy uses the lounge area to sleep. Unlike most places, they do not include breakfast and you might find cheaper places with breakfast, but nonetheless the nice house and atmosphere it creates make it worth a visit for a few nights, so consider it an experience!
