Karma Home Hostel

The Hostelz.com Review

Karma Home Hostel is a great little hostel with a lovely owner who's extremely helpful. The main common area makes it easy to meet people and the whole place has a very homey feel. There's even a rooftop hammock area. If you're used to having air conditioning, you may find the non-air-conditioned dorms quite hot, but the air-conditioned dorms don't cost much more. It's walking distance from the train station and a simple, donation-based breakfast is available.

The Location

It's an easy walk from the train station. As you exit the station, turn right and follow the tracks away from the station. After two hundred meters, you will see a very large bridge crossing the tracks. Just before this bridge there is a left turn. Turn left here, then take the first right, then immediately turn left. The small road will then spit into two. Keep left and you will see the hostel on your left after approximately a hundred meters.

Rooms and Bathrooms

The non-air-conditioned dorms definitely have a lack of fans, and things can get pretty hot in bed. If you want to have a dorm with an air conditioner, this costs an almost-insignificant amount. Beds are a bit hard, but they are large and stable and come with plug sockets and curtains. Drawing these obviously blocks off the breeze from the fan though. There are only a few bathrooms available; however, as this isn't a huge hostel, this isn't a big an issue. These are kept very clean, as is the rest of the property.

Common Spaces

The main common area has loads of comfy seating available, including bean bags and a hammock. Its open layout makes it very sociable and you'll definitely see people relaxing here in the evenings. There's also a much-larger-than-usual book exchange, and a peaceful rooftop area with a few hammocks. Wi-Fi is strong and fast throughout the building, and there are plenty of board games to play too.

This is a sociable little hostel run by a great guy from England; he'll go out of his way to help you and he's super knowledgeable about the area. If you're after somewhere peaceful to stay that still has a sociable atmosphere, then this hostel is perfect. Finding others to travel with should be effortless and there are a number of trips in and around Phitsanulok that you can go on together.
