Best Hostel in NZ
We've stayed in Paul's place (Gazebo Backpackers) when it just opened. We enjoyed a really friendly area. Paul the manager is an amazing guy, when you first come in he usually makes you fresh ice-cream or cookies. His yard is full of fruits so if you get there the right time of the year you can eat those as well. You can entertain yourself on a rainy day with the great facilities Paul has set up and on a sunny day Paul either way takes you or points out the great places you can visit it Takaka and you always get a bike to borrow to get there! Well we absolutely enjoyed our stay there, and we would recommend this place to everybody! When we'll back in NZ we will come back!

Thanks for recommending us the good place to go. Paul is very sociable and helpful. However the room could be better if the bed and pillows could be more cleaner.

This is the most loving hostel I've ever stayed at. Paul, the owner, talks to everyone and makes us all feel welcome. People are encouraged to connect with each other and Rachel, the cutest dog in the world, lives there too. I met some magical people there and my heart warms whenever I think of the gazebo. Lots of comfy chill out space too, fascinating murals, a beautiful garden, an outdoor shower! Two clean bathrooms a big kitchen and comfy beds to sleep in with extra blankets.

The owner after receiving my money took me out the beach and tried to ditch me in the tracks, then he led me to anahuta hut told me this way to the airport. took a 3 day hike over the mountains and i still aint there, all in all owners a good guy, good with local information and accomodating, wont lead you astray like he did me haha

Great place - spent wonderful time in this cozy bnb with a true backpacker spirit. The host Paul is just an angel. He takes super care of the guests and is of great support when it comes to things to do in the region (hikes etc). You really feel home there...
However carful if you are looking for a romantic bnb with jacuzzi etc to spend relaxing time with your partner thats maybe not the right place for you, again true backpacker spirit...

Wonderful stay. More of a home than a hostel. The owner is friendly, knowledgeable about NZ, and makes you feel right at home. I mentioned practicing yoga and he gave me a mat, blocks, and straps. Attracts kind guests who get together to see the sights, have dinner, watch movies, enjoy good conversation. It really felt like a home where you could relax, be yourself, and enjoy good company. I extended my stay. Best stocked, clean kitchen. Two giant TVs, Netflix. Woofers clean the house daily

My daughter and I stayed at the Gazebo Backpackers for 3 nights and had a very relaxing time. Paul is very welcoming and offers a wealth of information to help you sort out your vacation plans. The vibe is very easy going, with all guests respectful of one another. There are comfortable couches and chairs, both in and outside, to relax or watch a movie with surround sound performance. Paul works hard to make everyone feel at home, and he does a good job at it.

Liked: Laid-back style of the place. Well located to enjoy amenities of community and surrounding area. Didn't like: Not as clean as most I have been in (primarily in Europe).

Liked: Everybody knows each other. Really good atmosphere. The host Paul was just amazing, funny and really helpful. The garden was really nice, too. Didn't like: Actually nothing.
