La Empanada, the restaurant, has been one of the most popular restaurants in town for many years with great food, live music, a friendly environment and a good mix of locals and foreigners it is the place to spend your evenings in Mazunte; less promoted is the hostel that is part of it. With a number of private rooms, a dorm, kitchen facilities some great places to relax, and the restaurant at your doorstep, La Empanada provides an excellent base for anyone wishing to get to know Mazunte and the Pacific coast of Mexico.
With its location on the main road of Mazunte, it is hard to not to notice La Empanada's shady front garden/restaurant. Most of the private rooms are away from the restaurant and set back from the main street, reducing the chance of noise, and there's parking out front. There is also the option of secure parking. It is a three-hundred-meter walk to the main beach, and the collectivos stop is nearby if you wish to explore beaches further afield.
Rooms and Bathrooms
La Empanada has seven private rooms and one dorm; all the privates have simple bathrooms, good mosquito proofing, and ceiling fans. The dorm is basic, with lockers and a bathroom out front. You can stay short- to medium-term and housekeeping is provided twice weekly.
All guests are free to use the guest kitchen, with a fridge and basic necessities for cooking and storing your food. There is also a pool room with a full-size nine-ball table. The shady front area is available for guests during the day and provides a cool place to escape the heat in the middle the day and catch up on internet time with one of the better Wi-Fi connections in town.
With secure, low-price rooms and twenty-four-hour access, La Empanada gives you the option of full independence, to cook and come and go as you please, while also providing a great place to meet a wide range of people in the evenings. Rafa, the owner and one of the personalities of Mazunte, adds a personal touch takes his time to make sure his guests are looked after and enjoy their stay.
