Warmth, Comfort, Peace, Hospitality
This was the first hostel I stayed at during a summer filled with dorm rooms and hotels alike. It is such a fabulous place to stay. The house is casual but clean and peaceful. Families and solo travelers of various ages shared the family room with fire place and a t.v. There are ample kitchen spaces to cook and eat. My room was simple but neat and quiet. I loved the free tea and coffee, and the delicious fresh Irish milk from the Irish cows. Staying here in Kenmare was a highlight of my trip. I loved it! Thank you.
Filte Hostel in Kenmare is a real gem. The rooms are comfortable and very clean. The hostel is perfectly located near the center of town. It has a homey feel to the furnishings that makes for a comfortable stay and nice place to socialize. There is a curfew (1:30 a.m.), which still gives you plenty of time to hear the live music in Kenmare.
The Location
The hostel is located in the center of Kenmare near Henry Street and Main Street, the area for restaurants, pubs, and shops. There is a free carpark nearby. The bus runs to Kenmare from Killarney.
Rooms and Bathrooms
This hostel has dorms as well as fFamily and double/twin rooms ensuite. Everything is clean and well-maintained. Bed linens are provided, towels are not. There are several small shared bathrooms located throughout and separate hot water tanks on each side of building. There are shelves in the hallways and places to dry wet clothes.
Common Spaces
The common areas are wonderful, with a large kitchen area and another separate dining area as well. This makes for a nice space to prepare meals as well as meet other guests. It is also great for groups traveling together or families. Coffee, tea, and sugar are available. The living room is nicely furnished and even has a decorative "fireplace." There are chairs and sofas, a TV and a large table for games, reading or whatever. One drawback is that there is no Wi-Fi at the hostel, but it is available at nearby pubs. The staff in reception are welcoming and organized.
Summary
Overall, this is a great hostel -- very inviting, clean, and comfortable. And the location is perfect. Book ahead as it is popular!
This is definitely the best hostel i have ever stayed in. I have traveled through many countries on my holidays and this hostel is top of the lot. I would highly recommend a stop off in this hostel. Enjoy.
I stayed in this hostel in June 2004. It was a super hostel to stay in with nice clean and warm rooms, clean and modern bathrooms and great common areas. I would highly recommend it.
A comfortable and friendly hostel. It's clean, and has a curfew to keep out the riff raff and party crowd. The curfew is worth it to keep the place just the way it is. I loved the Aga cooker and scones.
