No.25 Cafe & Hostel, located in Kanchanaburi, Thailand, is a large, detached house that has been converted into a hostel.
No.25 Cafe & Hostel is located about forty minutes’ walk, or a ten-minute tuk tuk ride, south of the main bus station. It is approximately twenty minutes’ walk from the train station, and a similar distance from the Bridge over the River Kwai. The hostel is situated a hundred meters from Kanchanaburi’s main road, Highway 323. Its location means that it is relatively easy to reach by bus or with personal transport. However, it is a fairly long walk from either the bus or train station. It is far enough from the main road that it is relatively quiet at night.
There are numerous shops and stalls selling street food within five or ten minutes’ walk of the hostel.
Rooms and Bathrooms
There is a small number of dorm rooms and a couple of singles. The dorms have bathrooms en suite. The dorm rooms are fairly large and spacious, and each guest is allocated a locker, though the guest must provide their own padlock. Some of the dorm rooms even have private balconies, with a view over the common spaces of the hostel.
The reception and breakfast area is on the ground floor as you come into the hostel. In front of the building is a large front garden, with chairs, hammocks, and beanbags to lie on. The reception also provides maps and advice on transport to and from Kanchanaburi, and the best way to reach the Erewan waterfalls to the north.
Good quality Wi-Fi is available throughout the property. The hostel is unfortunately prone to mosquitoes, but so is the entire Kanchanaburi area. Staff are friendly and helpful. The hostel rents out bikes cheaply for a day.
One of the best features of this hostel is an all-you-can-eat buffet breakfast, which must be worth a good portion of the nightly price itself. It includes eggs, toast, cereal, oranges, tea, and coffee. Staff say that it is only served until 9:30, but in practice, they often leave the food and drink out later than that.
Overall, this quiet hostel is a good choice for those visiting Kanchanaburi if you have your own transport. This is definitely not a party hostel; it is a quiet, mellow place somewhat off the beaten track. The all-you-can-eat breakfast and the relatively clean rooms make up for the slightly higher-than-average prices charged.
