Manta Lodge YHA Hostel is a backpacker hostel catering mostly to those who need a cheap accommodation in Point Lookout on North Stradbroke Island.
It has good, free Wi-Fi in common areas, but you'll have to pay to get Wi-Fi inside the dorms.

The Location

The hostel is sited along the north side of the island at Point Lookout. From the ferry, it's approximately a 20-25 minute ride by local bus no.6 to get there.
A bus stop is located just next to the hostel, look for the stop called Manta.

The hostel is not in the best location in Point Lookout if you want to see the main attractions. However, they are easily reachable with a ten minutes bus ride or 30 minutes of walking. The hostel has easy access to the beach - you just have to walk 70 meters and you've got your feet in the sand!

Rooms and Bathrooms

There are several dorms, including four, six, and eight-bed dorms. The dorms are male-only, female-only and mixed. If you want more privacy, double rooms, twin rooms and family rooms are also available but they will be more expensive than dorms. The dorms are quite modern, and beds seemed to be new during our stay. There are also lockers under each bed to store your belongings securely. Most rooms include air-conditioning and a desk.

On each floor you have a bathroom for each gender, with two showers and two toilets in each. Everything is clean, and there is space in the shower to put your clothes and products.

Common Spaces

The reception is separated from the rest of the building. There are two big rooms for common spaces. One is more for relaxation with couches, a table, and a big screen TV. The other is more of a play room with table tennis and a pool table. The kitchen is very clean and modern with all the necessary equipment.

Summary

This is a great place to stay if you're travelling on a budget. If you want to dive or snorkel while in Stradbroke Island, it's actually the best place to stay since they have their own dive center in the hostel. Don't expect it to be a big place for party, it's relatively quiet.

Right on the beach, Manta Lodge YHA has a friendly and relaxed atmosphere with an open dining area and outdoor BBQ facilities. A pool table, table tennis and beach activities are available and there is a live band on Saturday nights at the nearby hotel with pool competitions, bonfires and BBQ's to enjoy.

Dive or snorkel with the onsite PADI five star scuba centre running daily charters and dive courses.

Enjoy 4WD tours, sand boarding, sea kayaking or take the spectacular North Gorge Headlands walk where you can see whales (Jun-Oct), manta rays (Nov-Mar), dolphins and turtles. Bikes, fishing rods and surfboards can be hired from the hostel. Or you can simply sunbathe and relax.

• Stradbroke Island, conveniently located just East of Brisbane is a natural treasure with kilometres of white sandy beaches, picturesque headlands, clear blue water and an abundance of wildlife.
• Getting there:
• Transfer bus from Brisbane on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, bookings are essential.
• By public transport, take a frequent daily train from Central or Roma Street Brisbane to Cleveland and then a ferry which is met by a local bus to drop you at the YHA door.
• Manta Lodge YHA is located at Point Lookout and is the first building as you come into town.
