The Location
As the name suggests, Lakefront is located right in front of Lake Te Anau, literally twenty meters from its shoreline. As well as offering the best views of any hostel in town, it is just a few minutes' walk from the town center, where you can find a good variety of restaurants and its two main supermarkets, along with multiple stores and tour companies.
Rooms and Bathrooms
There is a wide range of room types to choose from at Lakefront. From the backpacker classic bunk-bed room to different kinds of private rooms, as well as their special glamping tents -- or you can even pitch your own one if you feel like! The hostel is divided into three different buildings, two of them with all the bunk-bed rooms and the other for all the other private rooms, giving families some privacy from those party-like backpackers.
There are bathrooms in any of the mentioned buildings as well as in the garden for the campers. They are always clean and offer a privacy that is sometimes hard to find in hostels, especially for taking showers.
Common Spaces
There is a kitchen in each of the "backpacker" buildings, both of them big enough to host the customers' cooking necessities. They are all well equipped with good appliances and cutlery.
There are plenty of areas to hang around with fellow travelers and exchange tramping experiences or recommendations, both indoors for the usual cold weather and outdoors for the well-received warm summer days. There are indoor spaces again in both buildings, both with sofas and games. The outdoor spaces -- including a BBQ area and several dining tables -- are all around their big garden.

Description
The hostel is situated on the edge of Lake Te Anau in a central location- 5 minutes walk will take you to cafes, supermarkets and the Department of Conservation [DOC].
Te Anau is the gateway town to the Fiordland World Heritage National Park and our guests are here to either visit one of the fiords or walk a track. Our staff offer expert, advice gained by their participation in many Fiordland activities and walks. If you want to kayak, cruise, heli-hike, 4 wheel motor-bike, day walk or mountain bike they can advise you of the options and book it for you.
If you are here to walk a track we will help you with every tiny detail needed to get you on the trail. If it is the first track you have walked and you are nervous about it we will go over your gear making sure you are fully equipped. While here, you are bound to meet others who have just finished the track or find someone to walk with. You can leave your excess baggage and car here for a small fee.
The hostel has a two fully equipped community kitchens and self catering units are also available. Most of our dorms are ensuite and all rooms have heaters. There is lounge for the T.V and video and two other lounges, two with a log fires, guitar, games etc. We have a coin operated laundry.There is card phone available.
Email is an essential resource these days and we have 5 hi-speed wi-fi terminals,
cost $1 for 50mb, $2 for 200mb, $4 for 500mb.
There are some lovely views of the lake and mountains from our balconies or you can lie in front of the hostel beside the lake to admire the view. Behind the hostel is a BBQ and garden area in which to relax.

• Driving from Queenstown Airport:
• Take Sir Henry Wigley Dr to State Highway 6
• At the roundabout, take the 1st exit onto State Highway 6. Follow for 86km.
• Turn right onto State Highway 97. Follow this road until the T-junction in Mossburn and turn right onto State Highway 94.
• Follow 94 until you reach Te Anau.
• Just before you enter town you will see directions towards Lake Te Anau / Lake Front. Turn left here and follow the road for about 800 meters.
• We are located on the right hand side opposite the lake.

• Both Intercity and Tracknet offer public transport to Te Anau. Check out their websites for available departures.
• You can also try your luck at hitch hiking :)
