Babaji MDF Aonang Hostel is a bit of a joke -- while it shows shiny surfaces in the pictures when you book, what you get is complete mess with bedbugs and mould. It is also one of the furthest-away hostels from the beach and the noise from the party hostel across the street is guaranteed to keep you awake until midnight.
The Location
Babaji Hostel is located along the road that connects Krabi with Ao Nang Beach. However, it is one of the furthest-away hostels from the beach, which means that you will have to walk for around thirty-five minutes to reach the sea. There is not too much around either; the post office is right next door, but the only thing worth looking at is the Ao Nang mosque with the night market in front of it, which are about fifteen minutes from here. However, there are a few supermarkets nearby as well as some street food stalls.
Rooms and Bathrooms
The hostel basically only has one big dorm, which is divided into sections by curtains. Although they promise air conditioning, there was none at the time of the review. Also, the light switches are extremely tricky to find, so if you want to fall asleep after the reception has closed, you might have a hard time. Beds normally remain unmade until a new booking arrives and some of the beds have problems with bedbugs. On the positive side though, you get a key card and a key to a locker upon check-in against the payment of a deposit, so it is quite secure to leave your stuff inside. The bathrooms are outside and are absolutely disgusting and have mould all over them!
Common Spaces
In front of the hostel, there is a terrace with a few sitting and dining areas and a billiards table that you are free to play. There are a few tables inside too and there is a restaurant operating on the premises so you can order a meal without having to leave the hostel.
Summary
If you are coming for a holiday all the way to this luxury destination, do yourself a favour and try to avoid this place! There are other places for almost the same price that offer a lot more comfort and a much better location!
