Still Going Strong!

Finally made it back to lovely Loket and the Lazy River after a gap of 11 years. Legendary former hosts Doug and Bianca are long gone and the hostel is now in a building across the road from the original, but it's refreshing to know the vibe and stewardship are still ticking along nicely. New bosses Peter and Ewa from Czech have cultivated a similar set-up to the previous Lazy River and new or returning guests won't be disappointed. But the town itself is the star, a similar experience to Cesky Krumlov but without the crowds. Just a note, if you do decide to cross the bridge to that hike up to the viewing points on the far side of the river (well worth it for the views), make sure to take the trail head from the small car park instead of the indent that heads steeply up the hill a little while before that. I've taken that twice now and it leads you deep into the forest, which can be tricky to navigate if you have no map. Just walk a little farther to that car park and the signs there direct you up and along the various viewpoints which lead to the creek. Then it's an easy trek down to that wooden bridge and back up to the town centre.

Cute.

My friends and I stayed at this hostel in July 2013 and found the place to be really sweet. The people running the place had just taken over that day and were genuine and friendly and we really enjoyed our short stay. The town is a great little place with a lovely atmosphere and there is a WONDERFUL restaurant close by called Mosfera where the food and staff were amazing. Also the castle is directly across from the hostel, which is cool to look at from the dorm room windows at night. Very happy to return to this place.

Nothing but good times

We stayed for two nights at the Lazy River Hostel, and my only regret is that we couldn't stay longer. The town was great, the atmosphere was great and the people we met made it even better. We went on two hikes, a picnic and we took a tour of the 13th century castle, which was great. The host, Tom, took us out to one of the local restaurant where they server Czech cuisine and locally brewed beer -- which was excellent. My traveling companion and I agree that the time we spent in Loket and the Lazy River Hostel was altogether more enjoyable than the time we spent in Prague. If you're going to the Czech Republic, you'd do yourself a great disservice by not checking it out.

Perfect Stay

Staying at The Lazy River Hostel is the best way to see the amazing town of Loket, CZ. It felt like staying at your own little cottage in the Czech countryside. Staff was great, we came with a group of 11 and Tom gave us the whole upper floor. Loket is awesome!

Lazy River was a find that was a mistake. we had been told to go to Karlovy Vary but got off at the wrong stop and had grabbed the pamphlet for Lazy River from our hostel in Nurnberg. As soon as we came around the bend it was magnificent. Doug and Bianca made room for us as we arrived unexpectedly in the middle of the summer music festival and we had a difficult time leaving! We were there three days and made one more day in the end of our trip before returning to Germany.

Go the the castle for a fantastic meal of pork knuckle and the potato soup is a meal in itself! The hostel is ridiculously cute and the atmosphere is magical. I will go there again.

Five stars doesn't even begin to describe this amazing place! Doug and Bianca have put together a truly wonderful place in a magnificent setting. Kudos to you both, stayed here for two weeks and could have easily made it two months. Don't miss this gem!

Description

Lazy River Hostel is located in Loket, Czech Republic in the western part of the country (West Bohemia). We are about 2 1/2 hours west of Prague. Loket is one of the Czech Republic's most picturesque towns. Nestled within a sharp bend in the River Ohre, the tiny medieval village is dominated by its magnificent castle (Hrad Loket) and surrounded by the lush hills of the Slavkov Forest (Slavkovksy Les).

Our hostel is very small. At the moment our total capacity is only twelve beds! We offer a friendly and very laid-back environment with a helpful English-speaking staff and lots of information about the area area and things to do here. The hostel is located in an historic building right below the castle and about one minute from the town square. We have a large common room, bright and clean rooms, balcony, great kitchen facilities, laundry service, small library, and an easy-going atmospehere.

In the summer (and winter) there are lots of nice hiking trails to explore, operas and concerts in the outdoor theater, with stunning views of the castle, good day trips to go on, a cool castle to explore, and lots of opportunities to just chill out. In addition, Karlovy Vary (Czech Republic's most famous spa town) is only minutes away by bus.

In the winter Loket is usually covered in snow and is a great place to spend the holidays or take a break from your trip. This time of year we usually go snowboarding/skiing at least 2-3 times a week at a nearby ski resort, depending on snow conditions. Guests are welcome to come along and equipment rentals and lessons are available at the ski center.

So call ahead and make a reservation and we look forward to meeting you soon!

Location and Contact

Location

• From the bus stop walk across the bridge into town. Take the first left onto Kostelni. We are located at Kostenli 61, which is on your right, at the corner of Kostelni and Kratka.
• From the train station walk up-hill along Nadrazni. Enter town and pass the large, black tower, then turn right onto Kostelni. Walk up to the top of the park and look for number 61 (on your left).
• From within Czech Republic buses are usually the best way to get here but not always. There are at least a couple of direct buses each day from Prague and they take about 2 1/2 hours to reach Loket.
• The best thing to do is to take a look at www.vlak.cz and check out the latest times. This is the Czech transportation website and it includes an English option and is very simple to use. When you type in Loket it will give you the option to choose between Loket and Loket u Cetich. We are the option that just says Loket! Good luck and feel free to give us a call if you need help.
