Fantastic Hosts, beautiful building, great location in Pt Fairy

Allison and Kadir are sensational, really hospitable.

The hostel is run well in a beautiful old building in the center of one of the prettiest holiday towns in Oz.

Historic house with real character

Only spent one night but would've been happy to stay longer. Helpful, friendly service. our room, the old coachman's place, was quite snug and everything was clean. The town of Port Fairy is well worth a visit if you like historic villages by the sea.

Excellent location in pretty old-world coastal village. Clean and tidy, spacious double rooms with extra bunk. Friendly manager who was very helpful with tips, directions. Outside bbq and picnic table. Not so sure about pool table and stereo at back of lounge area if you want to chill out, but there is some kind of sliding screen door that might make a difference. Well-equipped good sized kitchen. Would stay again.

Despite arriving really late at night we were greeted cheerfully. The kitchen was clean and well maintained (I'm so fed up with hostels with just one bowl for twenty-five people!), and the dorms were quirky (we stayed in a converted hayloft). The temporary manager (June 2006) went out of her way to help us find the best route to Adelaide.

This was my first experience staying in a Youth Hostel (and I'm 45 years old). This hostel certainly surpassed all my expectations. We were warmly greeted, our room (a large family one) was ready for us. It was clean, soild and quiet, which is all we really wanted.

The location is fantastic as it is just around the corner from the main shopping strip (including supermarket), and only a few doors from the river.

The kitchen was really equipped, and we loved the pool table in the lounge area. There were plenty of tables and chairs scattered around the complex to sit and eat at or just sit and chat. There were a range of different aged people there, and overall I was very excited by my first youth hostel visit!

I phoned to book a room at 10 a.m. and got the answering machine. I didn't get a reply till 4 p.m., as the owner was out of the office. When we did arrive we had to contend with her toddler kid throwing keys at us.

It was clean and safe but certainly nothing special.

I really enjoyed my stay here. The room we had was huge with proper, solid furniture not always a given in some hostels. The kitchen was excellent, spotlessly clean as well as being fully equipped with decent utensils. Satellite TV was a huge bonus, plus there's a pool table and darts board. Good value.

Description

The centrally located hostel is in a historic 1844 building. The lovely Moyne river is just at the end of the street. Walk along the river past all the boats then around the island. Cross the river and you are on east beach, a lovely long sandy beach, great for long beach walks. Not to far away is Tower Hill a fantastic place full of Aussie wildlife....it is free and a ' must see'.
The rear garden courtyard of the hostel is a great place to sit in the afternoon and recount the days adventures. There are a wide variety of rooms availble and a great well serviced kitchen.
The hostel is a quiet place to chill out at the end of the great ocean road. A great place to spend a couple of days and explore.
