Sla Boutique Hostel

The Review

Our first impression of Sla Boutique Hostel is that it's clean, modern, and well maintained. It looks like a comfortable place to stay and we're not disappointed.

The Location

The hostel is in a quiet area, with bars, restaurants, and shops just around the corner. The Royal Palace and waterfront are one kilometer or a ten-minute walk away. The building is very modern and spotless. The staff are super friendly and greet guests with big smiles. The decor is modern and beautiful, creating a peaceful atmosphere.

Rooms and Bathrooms

The boys' dorm rooms are on the first floor and the girls' rooms are on the second floor. Our six-bed dorm room is fairly large, with plenty of space under the beds to store luggage. The beds are very unique in that the metal frame is round shaped, which creates a very different look than the usual dorm room. The mattresses and pillows are very comfortable and each bed is equipped with a reading light and electric sockets. The floor tiles, walls, and bedding are white and the bed frames are black. The one wall in our room is painted yellow, which is very cheerful. There are metal lockers in the one corner of the room and they provide a padlock. It's not big enough for a backpack, but we can safely fit our laptop, camera, and other valuables inside, with space to spare. A very large window lets in natural light, which just adds to the yellow wall and the cheerfulness of the room. The air conditioner is controlled by the guests and the Wi-Fi is super fast throughout the hostel.

The bathroom is separate from the dorm room and consists of one room with a toilet, shower, and hand basin. There is a shower curtain, which separates the two sections of the bathroom. This means we can safely get dressed in a dry area of the bathroom. The furnishings in the bathroom are as modern as the rest of the hostel.

Common Spaces

When you enter the hostel, you walk into a long and bright room. First is the reception desk where all the staff are extremely helpful and friendly. They provide maps of the city, and arrange tours of the Killing Fields, Genocide Museum, and more. Then you walk through the bar area, where guests can sit and have a drink and meet other people. After the bar is the lounge area, which is bright and comfortable, and beautifully decorated with a few purple orchids. Next is the shared kitchen, where guests can make their own food or order something from a menu. It's a fully equipped kitchen with a large wooden table in the middle of the room, where guests can sit and eat their meal. Each area is very clean and well kept. There is a large flat-screen TV with DVDs, a guest computer, and board games for entertainment. Outside the front entrance are a few motorbikes as well as a bicycle for rent. This is a great way to get around in the city, as the tuk-tuk guys always overcharge foreigners.

This is such a wonderful hostel and the location is perfect, as it's away from the hustle and bustle, but still close enough to walk. It's great value for money and we definitely rate it highly.

Superb staff and facilities -- loved it!
You are welcomed with a refreshing drink and smiles. I cannot stress enough how lovely the staff were coming from someone who works in hospitality. They will go head over heels to help you and happy to where they can. The beds are very spacious (a bit squeaky though) and the dorm rooms are always spotless -- as well as the bathroom. This hostel is value for money and you will love it. Down the road from nightlife, cafe's, local restaurants, shops, pubs, and bars. I will definitely be going back here.
