Shut this hostel down!

this hostel is the worst. bedbugs so bad i need to receive medical attention, terrible customer service after being promised a refund the night of the incident one year later, and they ignore my messages or send me around and around in circles. Do not stay here. Shut this hostel down!

Horrible. Do not stay here!

Do not stay here! I would give them zero stars if I could. My friends and I stayed there for only one night and got chewed to death by bedbugs. I understand these things happen but when we reported them in our room, the man at the desk seemed like he already knew and didn't care. He just tried to get rid of us. We tried contacting them for 3 weeks with a refund they said we would get. They sent us to 6 different people trying to get to the bottom of it and were incredibly rude in the process. We saw multiple bugs in the bed the next morning and provided photo evidence. They claimed there was a "state inspection" that showed there was no bedbugs ... another lie. It was our first night in Europe so we knew it was from their facility. Again, bedbugs happen but they for sure ignore the situation.

Avoid at all costs

On our first night of a month long trip through Europe, me and two of my friends stayed here. Big mistake. We had an early train the next morning so only ended up spending a total of 8 hours in the hostel but in that time we experienced a very severe case of bedbugs. One of my friends woke up in at 4 am and had instantly reacted to the bites which were all over her body. We took pictures of the bugs on our beds (me and the other girl's bites showed up a week later, as usual with most bedbugs.) We told the man at the front desk who told us we would get a refund. We then spent the next 4 weeks calling and emailing with them as they referred us from one person to the next, all who said they couldn't help us and to talk to someone else. All very rude people who kept explaining different policies on how BVJ handles the bedbugs. One person told me the refund will take 15 days, one person told me all the others are "liars" because BVJ doesn't give refunds, one person had the nerve to tell me that "the state inspected your beds and found no bedbugs" so we wouldn't be getting a refund. We have traveled before and understand bedbugs are sometimes unavoidable but the way this hostel handled the situation was ridiculous. Otherwise, the hostel was less than impressive with no wifi, moldy bathrooms, and unfriendly staff. There are no good restaurants or attractions around so everything you save in booking with BVJ at such a low price, you later spend in cab fare and metro tickets. Whatever you do, do not stay here.

BVJ Champs-Elyses Monceau is a hostel situated on the Right Bank of Paris. In a city like Paris, you'll probably be too busy to spend much time at your hostel. BVJ knows this, so they don't go out of their way to have events at the hostel, they will provide you with a detailed map and all the other basics you'll need!

The Location

BVJ Champs-Elyses Monceau is located less than one mile from the Arc de Triomphe and Champs-Elysees shopping street. It is located on a small street that is quiet, but it's just a short walk from the action. It can be difficult to find the hostel, so it's helpful to look it up on Google Streetview to get a feel for its location. Also know that BVJ stands for Bureau de Voyages Jeunesse, as that is what the sign says on the gate. A metro stop is located about one block away, and there are plenty of safe sidewalks if you prefer to arrive on foot. There is no parking available except for possibly some street parking shared with neighboring businesses.

Rooms and Bathrooms

All dorms are separated by gender. Although most bookings have you reserve a bed in a ten-dorm room, know that this is only the average number of beds and the actual number of beds may vary when you arrive. At first we were put on the first floor into a seventeen-bed dorm! BVJ seems a bit unprofessional in their placement of people in dorms, as everyone in our dorm was required to move to a different room for the last couple nights. We were then moved to the top floor (note that there are no elevators), but this dorm was a much-quieter six-person dorm.

The security situation is fairly unique. No lockers are available, but you can choose to store your belongings in a locked and video-monitored baggage room. Individuals do not get their own room key, but have to share one, and the last person to leave is responsible for locking the door and bringing the key to reception. The hostel is surrounded by a wall, so you need to be buzzed in.

Even though bedrooms and toilets are gender-specific, shower rooms are not. There is no changing area, but there are hooks available inside the actual shower to hang clothes. Just make sure to point the shower head away from your belongings! Most of the showers are fairly spacious, so this is not a problem.

Common Spaces

The breakfast room/lobby offers free Wi-Fi access, plenty of seating, and a television that is usually turned to either a game or a music video channel. No smoking is allowed inside the buildings, but it is permitted in the center courtyard. However, on summer days when all the windows are open, the rooms tend to smell smoky from this. The biggest downside to this hostel is the acoustics. Everything echoes! So if someone is talking in the courtyard in the middle of the night, you could be woken up from sleeping on the top floor.

The biggest upside to this hostel is the breakfast. There is plenty to eat, with all kinds of breads, spreads, cereal, fruit, and beverages. It has its own French flair to allow you to get a sample of the city before you even leave the hostel!

BVJ Champs-Elyses Monceau is a very stripped-down hostel that only offers the things you truly need, but for Paris, it is one of the best locations at one of the best prices, hands down. If you're ok with no alcohol and loud noises, go ahead and reserve your spot today!

What a phenomenal hostel!!!

My roommate and I stayed here for five nights during our stay in Paris. It was a fantastic hostel and I would highly recommend it to anyone. Its located in a clean, safe, and upscale part of town close to the arc due triomphe. The Eiffel tower is a 30min walk and the Louvre is about the same distance. Its 30 seconds from an entrance to Paris's excellent metro. The staff are all friendly and helpful, which is all you can ever ask from hostel staff. My only criticism of this hostel is that it is dry. There is no alcohol allowed in the hostel which really kind of sucks in a city where bottle of wine cost less than a bottle of water.

BVJ Champs-Elysées Monceau Reviews from the Web

Location: 15min walking from Arc which made me possible to walk around Paris without metro for the first day.

Cleanliness: it was ok, but dont expect too much.

Security: no locker and low security for entering the room but i wasnt stolen anything.

Facility: the bed moved every time the other guest moves, that made me awake several times. I could take a hot shower but there was no place to put my things so I needed to go out to bathroom naked.

The staff is extra friendly! The rooms and the beds are pretty good, I only missed a few hooks to put on your jacket or a towel. Everything was clean all the time. There is only one key per room, so you have to check at the front desk, if there is someone in the room. Otherwise they have the key, which works quite okay.

Perfect hostel! Location is great, Clean rooms that smell good, i like that the beds are already made and ready to sleep in, Bathrooms are spacious and modern and clean, hostel has a lovely garden which is great to hang out and relax, Breakfast is awesome with quite a lot of options, and above all the reception staff (Kamal and Juliet) are super friendly and helpful! This hostel deserve a much better rating than what they have! Will be back for sure!
