You'll get picked up at the town of Agujitas to be driven to the town of El Progresso, where Drake Bay Backpackers is located.
The hostel is a bit out of the way. You'll cross a river getting there, as in literally driving through a river, which is fun. The remote location means there is not much around and you'll need to do lot of walking. Some small mini markets are available with a few minutes' walk, but these are very limited in stock. If you don't mind doing a lot of walking, which we guess you wouldn't if going to a place like this, there are a lot of places to walk to from this location. When you come by plane instead of car or boat, the hostel is just a short walk away, but they will likely pick you up if you let them know.
Rooms and Bathrooms
The dorm room is very neat. Every bunk bed is separated by walls and a curtain, meaning that even the dorm beds could be considered privates. Each "private" bunk-bed cubicle has a table where you can stash your stuff and it comes with a table light; lockers are also available for your more valuable belongings. Bathrooms do not have hot water, but we don't think there is hot water anywhere on the peninsula.
The common area is quite big. There is a nice and very social sitting area with couches and an eating table. Its' good to get social -- play one of the games they have and have a drink together. Of course, after cooking a good meal in the well equipped kitchen, if you just want to sit by yourself and relax, there are comfy hammocks around. Also on the hostel's grounds is a little trail into the forest, which will lead you down to a river where they have placed a bench -- sit here to gather your thoughts or just enjoy the scenery!
This is a very well-equipped hostel, which is located a bit out of the way. Staff will occasionally change due to its voluntary nature. Overall it's quite good, you'll need to do more walking than when staying in the town of Agujitas, but the staff can also arrange a lot, with transport included if that is your thing. On a side note, there are a few bikes available, but most do not function well. This is a nice place (we stayed longer than we had planned).
