The Hat Madrid is the first Boutique Hostel in town. Located in a mansion in the best tourist area in the Plaza Mayor, 3 minutes walk from the Puerta del Sol, Gran Via and La Latina.
Offers private and shared rooms, for girls, families and groups of friends. All rooms have a magnificent natural light, private or shared bathroom, air conditioning and WIFI generation.
We know how important is breakfast for travellers, so we offer a great breakfast for a small price. It has an outdoor terrace, solarium and spacious common areas.
We have Dual WiFi! you don't need to know the difference between 2,5 GHz and 5 GHz, you just have to enjoy it. Here, every access point has both channels, so you won't have any problems with the connection. Nor with the price, because it's free.

Please note this hostel conditions:
Payment: We will take payment 48h before your arrival (counting back from 15:00 on the day of arrival). In case of a rejected credit card, you will have 24h to contact us and renew your card, otherwise your reservation will be automatically cancelled.
Cancellation policy: It is free up to 48h before your arrival (counting back from 15:00 on the day of arrival). In case of a late cancellation or No Show, you will be charged the entire stay and the booking will be automatically cancelled.
Credit card fraud: We carry on credit card preauthorisations from the moment we receive a reservation. It is an automatic transaction where we charge and refund a card with the amount that corresponds to your first night of stay. Please allow some time to get your transaction back as banks have sometimes delayed processes.
We reserve the right to refuse admission.
Our establishment has bunk beds and elevated beds in some of the rooms. This circumstance must be considered while staying with us, as well as the danger this may entail. So the client accepts it, thus rejecting any legal action against The Hat Madrid in the event of an accident.
We offer some individual rooms, which are rooms with bunk beds for one person only. They do not include towels, which can be rented at reception.
We don't accept group bookings. Bookings for more than 8 people will be automatically cancelled without a refund of the Hostelworld deposit.
Modifications/cancellations are accepted by mail only.
Taxes included. No curfew. Sheets included. Towels for rent 2.5 Eur.
Guests under 18 years old must stay in private rooms; we won't allow children on shared dorms.
Stag/Hen parties groups are not allowed on the hostel.

The Hat Madrid is an excellent hostel -- the vision of the perfect hostel of your imagination. It is affordable, comfortable, and easy going so that you can meet people.
The Location
The Hat Madrid hostel is located steps from the Plaza Mayor, the central plaza of Madrid. It is also only a couple of minutes' walk from the bustling Puerta del Sol, the busiest square in all of Madrid. It is very accessible as you can take the affordable metro to Puerta del Sol and walk a couple of minutes through Plaza Mayor to get to the hostel. The Hat Madrid is very central and it is easy to get to all the main areas of Madrid by foot or by metro. The hostel is not difficult to find -- just make sure you have a map, have printed directions, or have the use of Google Maps, as it is always takes time to get orientated to a foreign city.
Rooms and Bathrooms
The hostel offers four-, six-, eight-, and ten-bed dorms, single sex or mixed, with en suite or with shared bathroom facilities. The beds are bunk beds, they are comfortable, and there are individual lights and plugs for charging your electronics are beside each bed. Each person in the room has their own designated locker as well, but locks are not provided. Beside the lockers are hooks, one for each person in the dorm. The dorms and bathrooms are clean, but you must bring your own soap and towels as they are not provided. Some dorms have a little balcony area with a view of the city.
Common Spaces
The hostel is comprised of many floors with stairs and an elevator up to the top, where a lovely rooftop bar and restaurant sits. The bar is beautiful, with cozy places to sit, lovely decor, and excellent food and drinks served; it is only open in the evenings. The stairways have lovely murals drawn on the walls promoting what an environmentally friendly hostel it is -- they use biomass as a power source. There is a tiny courtyard filled with lovely hanging plants in the middle of the hostel. The atmosphere is good; it feels more like a hotel with dorm rooms than a hostel.
The hostel has a lovely basement area as well, where they serve an excellent breakfast, with fresh fruit, bread, packaged pastries and muffins, cereal, juice, tea, and coffee. They offer regular milk and soy milk for those who are vegan or have allergies. The facilities are good. There is a toaster oven where you can toast your bread or cook individual frozen pizzas, there is a kettle where you can make your own tea and coffee, and a microwave where you can heat up some food from the grocery store. The basement area has a lot of seating, and it is open twenty-four hours for you to hang out with friends or prepare some food.
There is also a sitting area in the lobby of the hostel. It has couches and areas where you can charge your computers/phones. It also has a bar so you can drink and socialize and meet other travelers. It is a social place where you can meet other people over breakfast or at the bars in the evening, but it is certainly not loud enough that it would disturb your sleep. The staff at the lobby are happy to let you store your luggage without charge, if you are checking out but not leaving until later on. There is also a washer and dryer located on the top floor for a small fee.

Started my first solo trip with a stay at The Hat and it was wonderful. Staff were helpful, the vibes were upbeat and friendly, the breakfast was a good deal. The free walking tour was amazing! Would highly recommend for a solo or girls trip.

Beautiful hostel in the center of Madrid. Very friendly and lovely staff. The only drawback for me is that towels and the security key to keep your stuff safe are not included in the price. Also it's very easy to wake up someone in the room because the draws and lockers are old school and they make noise.

THIS PLACE IS LITERALLY A LIFE SAVER. My boyfriend and I got mugged and separated while out drinking one night. I made it back to the hostel first and was losing my mind with fear and anxiety that my boyfriend was lost or hurt. The staff let me us the phone, helped calm me down, and did anything they could to help me. My boyfriend did eventually come back, but I would not have made it through that morning without them and I am forever grateful.

LOVED the hat. We got a private room with a terrace, with all the amenities. It couldn't have been more perfect with the facilities, and rooftop bar, and it is 1 block from Plaza Mayor. We weren't that social when we were there, so not sure about how much socialization is facilitated, but it seemed if you went to the rooftop bar or basement hang area that many people would be very nice. AC in rooms also was so good.

One of the best hostel I've ever been to. The 8-people shared bedroom was BIG, with beds safely distant. The overall cleanliness of the host was good, amazing location, great atmosphere (with sangria parties going on every night downstairs and Madrid tours every morning) but the best part was the staff: super friendly and ready to help you. The Italian girl working at the reception was lovely! She recommended lots of her favourite restaurants and they were so good. Thank you so much

Great central location! Comfortable beds and clean rooms & bathrooms with air conditioning to combat the heatwave. Kind and helpful reception staff.
The nightly free sangria downstairs is a great way to meet people, they do a regular pub crawl as well. The upstairs bar is not really a good place to meet people especially for solo travellers & quite expensive for the area.

Very well located, a stone throw from the Plaza Mayor, and therefore walking distance from the main attractions. Lockers are available in the rooms (bring your own padlock or buy one at the hotel for 2 euros).
One thing would make the place absolutely perfect; a dedicated working space. In this era of digital nomads, it would be worth perhaps converting a basement bedroom into a quiet working area.

I loved my stay at the Hat and would 100% stay again. The whole hostel had a boutique hotel vibe and the room and the common areas were very clean. The atmosphere was great and staff very helpful and most importantly beds extremely comfortable.

Location
• We are located in the heart of the historical center of the city less than 100 meters from the Plaza Mayor, between Gran Via and La Latina.• There are many ways to get to the hostel, some of them faster than others. Anyway, every one of them will take between 35 to 60 minutes. Keep in mind the rush hour traffic on the early morning and late afternoon. Let´s move on:
• – From the airport:
• A) Train and subway:
• From Terminals 1 and 2 take the subway (line 8) to Nuevos Ministerios station. From there, you can take the city train (Cercanias) and get to Sol station in (aprox.) 5 minutes (lines C4A, C4B or C3).
• The approximate time and cost is 40 minutes, and 5 euros per person.
• B) Subway:
• From any of the airport subway stations (Terminals 1-2-3 or Terminal 4) take line 8 to Nuevos Ministerios station (last stop). There, take line 10 (Puerta del Sur direction) to Tribunal station. In Tribunal station, take line 1 (Valdecarros direction) to Sol station.
• The approximate time of this way is 50 minutes.
• C) Taxi:
• Since 2014, there is a 30 euros standard fee for trips from the airport to the center of Madrid. The approximate time is 35 minutes, but it can take 60 minutes with traffic or in rush hours. Be aware of traffic jams.
• These are the walking times to the main points of interest:
• Puerta del Sol: 03 minutes. La Latina: 03 minutes. Gran Via: 05 minutes.Malasaña: 12 minutes.
• Cibeles: 10 minutes. Prado Museum: 15 minutes.Reina Sofia Museum: 15 minutes. Retiro Park: 20 minutes.
