Great except for the uncomfortable beds

Pros -- Felt safe, quiet, single person restroom in room, small lockers in room, free parking (curbside in quite neighborhood). Cons -- No large locker in room (in back of property), uncomfortable bed, no autolock door.

too many drunks coming in early morning and disrupting the hostel.

Excellent

I was at this hostel in November and my time there couldn't have been better. The staff are super friendly and make you feel at home. The atmosphere was very homely and welcoming too. The rooms and bathrooms are very clean. Very well located, not far from airport, and close to buses, rail, and shops on Roosevelt Row. Best hostel in town. I will definitely stay there if I'm back in Phoenix, it felt like home away from home.

I loved the atmosphere

Although I only stayed one night, arrived in the evening and had to go the next morning, I could not really try all the many possibilities of the hostel. But they advised me very good for a dinner in the evening and I had a great time. If I could, I'd come back to stay longer and explore more.

Excellent Ambiance

Great service and the amiability of guests was a pleasure to experience. The colors used to enhance the early style of the building was indicative of the vibrancy one feels when there. The front yard is shaded so that even on a sunny morning it is comfortable to sit outside sipping on a morning 'cuppa' listening to the birds.

Felt at home

My 15 yr old son and I stayed at the HI Phoenix hostel due to all hotels being booked the one night we needed for his Regionals Boys Gymnastics meet. We easily found our way to the hostel from Downtown Phoenix, and took the bus back to his event the next day. It was great to feel at home, meet interesting people from USA and foreign countries. He especially enjoyed the breakfast and "hanging" out in the hammocks in the warm sun (We are from San Francisco, alot of fog) The owner found a small room fan for us to use as well. The staff was very helpful, let us check in late due my son's training schedule. We would stay here again in the future!

Nice atmosphere!

I stayed less than a week here and really liked everything about it! The staff is polite and welcoming. I really liked the natural theme of the hostel, it felt like home. We all had a good time and became friends.

Liked: One of the best hostels I have stayed in! Friendly people (perhaps a conincidence :)), but that's the general vibe apparently in this hostel. Staff are also chilled out, professional and helpful. Didn't like: The booking fees that I paid on the website was not taken into consideration at the Hostel payment counter. Although, the hostel authorities convinced me the logic (I think), this needs to be fixed, and policy needs to be clearly mentioned on the website, and clearly communicated to the hostels.

Liked: Relaxed environment, fantastic friendly staff, tons of character in & around the hostel & not far from downtown Phoenix either.Great value & the facilities are good too.As this is a hostel website, I assume people are not expecting the Ritz & thus I hope they would appreciate the gem that this place really is. Didn't like: Not a dislike as such, it's just that I wish they had a stricter booking policy, so that people didn't take advantage of their generous flexibility & booked rooms that they had no intention of paying for nor using during the Superbowl weekend! I hope those NYC douchebags who blocked genuine guests have the same happen to them in the future.
