The Review

Doogles is a backpackers hostel with a good vibe and an atmosphere for a good party as well. The compound is large enough that its guests can find privacy if they want it, or simply escape the commotion caused by bands performing poolside during the weekend. The hostel features a pool with a nearby stage for live music, as well as a garden in the back. For those looking to hike Mt. Mulanje or see some of the nearby national parks, Doogles has a good bit of information to help those travelers.

The Location

Doogles is located just a short, five-minute walk from the city center where you can find restaurants, grocery stores, shops, and even a cinema. The bus station is even closer to the hostel since the hostel is located right behind the location where the buses depart. If you're looking for an ATM, look no further than the gate of the hostel because there is one located just outside of the hostel gate. Despite this key location, the hostel is not very clearly marked. Nevertheless, if you can find the bus station, it is easy enough to either ask someone or keep driving past it to find the large Doogles sign.

Rooms and Bathrooms

The rooms are kept quite clean with at least three dorm bedrooms and a number of other private rooms available, both self-contained and just the beds. The bathrooms are cleaned every day and each bathroom stall/shower is labeled either male or female. The showers have scorching hot water that doesn't seem to run out after multiple people showering.

Common Spaces

There is a decent amount of common space for Doogles' guests, with a large bar area surrounded by seating. There is a more traditional booth-style area for the restaurant patrons as well as a number of shaded tables to spend the days lounging by the pool. In addition there is a living room with a number of leather couches that is separate from the bar, where it is easy enough to have some privacy.

Doogles is a well-planned hostel that caters to the backpacker wishing to stay in a dorm, as well as the overlander that wants a private room and a place to safely park their car. It's well located in the city, but it can be a bit difficult to find.
