Hostel Villa Angelina Old Town

The Review

Hostel Villa Angelina Old Town is a clean and friendly hostel that offers a social and relaxed atmosphere, ideal for travelers (solo and group) who want to be centrally located and enjoy the happening vibe of the historic Old Town.

The Location

Hostel Villa Angelina Old Town is very well located within the walls of Old Town Dubrovnik. It is an excellent location from which to pick up the vibe of the town. The hostel is located across several buildings (all within Old Town) and gives guests a great opportunity to experience Old Town. The reception is easy to find and easily reached from the bus station, by bus from the port, or by taxi from the airport.

The neighbourhood feels very safe and is well lit at all times. There are a lot of people in the area enjoying the nightlife and the day-to-day life. The hostel feels private but not isolated. Shops and restaurants are found literally at the doorstep of the hostel.

Rooms and Bathrooms

As the hostel is quite large, the dorms are spread over several buildings within Old Town; all locations are great. The front door to the hostel as well as the dorm rooms are all lockable. There are lockers available (you must provide your own lock), but they are not large enough for a seventy-liter backpack, instead offering just enough room to fit personal valuables. There is limited space for backpack storage, especially for those who are on top bunks. There are ample amounts of male/female showers and toilets available to be used by guests. These rooms are cleaned daily. The hostel provides towels and linen for each guest and bathrooms have hand towels and soap.

Common Spaces

The kitchen is large enough for more than one person to use at a time. There is communal food cupboard as well as a guest cupboard with a naming system in place. The fridge provides enough room for all guests to keep food cold and fresh. The kitchen offers full facilities for guests, including stove and oven. All pots, plates, and kitchenware are available for guest use also. The kitchen joins with bench seat and table for food preparation or dining. Outside the kitchen is an outdoor area where guests can hang out or dine. At night, guests are able to use the outdoor terrace for drinks and nibbles before it closes at 10 p.m. This is not a loud space; it's great for meeting people or relaxing.

Hostel Villa Angelina Old Town is a great hostel with superb location that's great for solo travelers or groups. The atmosphere is great for meeting people or for relaxing away from the busy Old Town centre. The hostel is easily found and located near shops, restaurants, and popular Dubrovnik sights. It's recommended for those who want to make the most of their time in Dubrovnik.

Hard to get to and very cramped
Liked -- Air-conditioning, friendly staff, good Wi-Fi, full kitchen, close to all main attractions. Disliked -- Physically grueling to get to, they don't tell you about the downstairs bathroom, rooms and shower stalls are very small. Overall -- While I liked the staff here and the day-trips that they offered, I probably wouldn't stay here again, as you have to climb a ton of steps with your heavy bags to get there, and they've made all of the spaces in the hostel, including the rooms, as small as possible because of the cost of being in the old town. If I were to return to Dubrovnik, I would try to find a place outside of the old town, where groceries would be cheaper and getting there wouldn't be such a slog.

Great Location, nice room
Two of my friends and I rented a room at Hostel Villa Angelina Old Town. The room was a bit tight (as expected), but in a prime location in old town and well appointed.

Good location, reasonable price, well equipped, and very clean!
Great hostel, near train/bus station and near old town to walk to, helpful staff and good kitchen. Near supermarket so very convenient. We came back to stay here after dubrovnik to fly home from split because it was so good.

Loved it
I had a great time at this hostel. The staff were fantastic, especially Dario. The rooms aren't massive but don't feel too cramped either. There's a kitchen downstairs for self-catering (supermarkets aren't far away). The verandah has a great view of the old town, a nice place to eat breakfast or dinner. A lot of people gathered there, so it was easy to meet people. You have to move inside at 10pm, but it was no problem, it simply gave the option of having an early one or going to a bar. There are a lot of stairs to negotiate on your way to the hostel, but if you don't want to go up and down stairs then there's only a limited part of Dubrovnik's fantastic old town that you'll see. I was sad to leave this place.

Cheapest Spot in Old Town, Not Great for Meeting People
I stayed here two Fridays in a row between group tours. Had hoped that people would be at the outside bar, but the place was absolutely dead of activity both nights, even though the hostel was sold out. Had much more fun roaming the streets and meeting people than I did at this hostel. With that said, though, I'm pretty sure it's the cheapest way to stay in Old Town. Ask for the 8 person room on the second floor, the four person room on the first floor is way too tiny.

Pretty Nice
Overall, this was a pretty nice place to stay. Pros -- rooms and restrooms were cleaned everyday, linens and towels were provided, showers were hot and strong, relatively quiet, located within the Old Town, and nice place to meet people. The kitchen was a bit cramped, but well stocked. Dario at reception was incredibly friendly and helpful, as was the lady that staffed reception as well, though I didn't catch her name.

Response from the accommodation: Dear John! Thank you so much for a grat review, we are so glad you have enjoyed your stay here and we wish to see you again here in Hostel Villa Angelina! Matea Hostel Villa Angelina Old Town
