Bella's Backpackers

The Review

Bellas Backpackers is a good hostel. The staff are friendly and helpful if you can find them around. It has quite a social atmosphere for a hostel in a small town and many local people hang out and visit here at times as well.

The Location

When the bus drops you off from Belize City or Benque, walk straight up the hill for around four to five minutes, past an orange building on the right and down the first street on the right after this you will find Bellas Backpackers. If you get lost, ask a local and they should be able to point you in the right direction of the hostel.

Bellas Backpackers is only a short walk down the road from all of the tourism companies that run tours to the ATM caves and other caving, tubing, and canoeing activities. Along the main street here, you will also find some really good local places to eat and all of the other supplies you might need conveniently in one strip.

Rooms and Bathrooms

The rooms at Bellas are really spacious and have good mattresses. Two bedbugs were found during our stay, so do a double check of your bed to make sure you don't have a problem with them and keep your stuff away from the beds. There are lockers for you to secure your valuables provided that you have your own lock. The bathrooms are inside of the dorm rooms and are nice and kept clean, but only have cold water.

Common Spaces

The major common space here at Bellas is the rooftop patio, where people sit out and have conversations and parties. This is where the Wi-Fi signal is also at its highest so you can use your computer or device here to get internet. It is equipped with couches and a table to sit on and relax. Downstairs they have a kitchen that is well stocked with supplies and a refrigerator for all your cooking needs. They also have a couple of hammocks in this area that you can chill out on and relax in as well.

Sometimes it can get quite loud and the parties can go on quite late, so if you are planning to get up early in the mornings to do the tours, be aware of this. However, it is a good place to meet people and a good base from which to explore San Ignacio.
