Los Mostros Hostel

The Hostelz.com Review

Los Mostros Hostel is a very open and social hostel with lots of common spaces for meeting people.

The Location

Los Mostros Hostel is located in one of the more modern and residential areas of the city. It is within a short walking distance from the main shopping mall and fast food places where you can eat. The private hospital, pharmacy, and public transport systems are also quite easily accessible from here as well, making it easy to get to and from the airport or the the main bus terminal on public transport.

Rooms and Bathrooms

The rooms here are fairly small and they have large-sized lockers in which to keep your valuables if you provide your own lock. The beds are fairly cozy for sleeping and they turn the air conditioning on in the evenings and through the night to make sleeping in the heat a little more comfortable.

There are a few different bathrooms scattered around the hostel. In the mornings, it can be a bit of a nuisance waiting for bathrooms if everyone is trying to use them at once. The water is heated with an electric head, which is also a positive in these parts.

Common Spaces

The common spaces here are the the hostel's biggest draw card. They have a medium-sized kitchen for cooking food and they have all of the utensils you may need for a decent meal. They also have a large lounge room area, where people can watch TV or play video games; it is filled with loads of comfortable couches. There's also the outdoor area with a swimming pool that you can use during the day and loads of tables and chairs where you can hang about. The abundance of open areas to chill out makes it super easy to meet people to hang out with in this hostel.

This place has a super cool and chilled-out vibe. The staff are really helpful and friendly and they can also help you book tours for around Panama City and to the famous San Blas Islands. It is a cool place if you want to hang out and spend a couple of days in the city to see things, but Panama City itself shouldn't need much more time than that to see.

Hostelz.com Guest Reviews

Los Mostros Hostel is a good hostel in which to spend a night or two while in Panama City. It is located in a safe -- albeit not a very interesting -- neighbourhood. It is a social hostel, and mostly clean, and although we had a bedbug problem, we hope it was temporary. The Location The hostel is located near a few banks and small grocery stores, as well as a few large fast-food chain restaurants. It is not close to either of the airports or any of the major tourist attractions, although it is worth mentioning that the international airport is relatively far out of town, and none of the hostels are close. Both airports are accessible by both taxi or bus. The hostel offers pickup for the airports, which is competitively priced for the international airport, but very overpriced for the smaller Albrook airport. There is a bus line nearby that goes to the Albrook Mall, and from there, there is another bus that goes to the Miraflores locks of the Panama canal. The distance to Casco Viejo is walkable but may be uncomfortable on a very hot day. Rooms and Bathrooms The rooms are clean; however, on our second stay there, we saw a bedbug on the top bunk of our bed. We changed beds that night and notified staff, and we hope this was only a temporary problem that was taken care of swiftly. The lockers are located in a separate area outside of the room, which is very convenient if you have to look through your luggage or pack up very early in the morning or late at night. The lockers are large enough to accommodate a large piece of luggage. The bathrooms are large, with a shower, sometimes a bathtub, double sinks, and plenty of room to store your clothes and toiletries. They are kept clean, and there is hot water. Common Spaces There are several common areas downstairs. There is a fully furnished kitchen, there is also a small computer area, as well as a TV room. There are a few tables indoors, as well as a few tables, couches, and hammocks outside. There is a small backyard and a pool, and people oftentimes spend time in the outside area in the evenings. It is a social hostel and meeting people shouldn't be a problem if you wish to do so. The internet connection is incredibly infuriating, as it can be very hard, or even impossible, to connect, and once connected, it is very slow. Our advice would be to do all your important trip planning, or anything else that requires the internet when you do manage to connect, as there is no guarantee if you'll be able to connect again during your stay. Summary Los Mostros is a social hostel that is mostly clean, and while it is not centrally located, it is not a problem to most people, as very few travelers spend more than two or three days in the capital.
Good stuff (& staff)!
The team from Argentina has done a great job! A lovely villa converted into a hostel with x4, x6 rooms. Good kitchen & washing facilities, a good vibe, a (not so) good pool and a good location 5min walk to the biggest mall in the city. Wifi was good (when not everyone is downloading!) and there loads of activities to do around the house. Rooms and bathroom were clean. Recommended.
