Nice place
Great place for your money. You are likely to meet travelers from all over the world. For a smart traveler this is an ideal place.

Ok for the price.
I had no problem finding the hostel. The people running the Hostel (Alex) were very nice. There were not enough lockers. Bunks were not the best so you had to adjust your position for comfort but were clean and so were the linens provided. The bathrooms were clean,(with the exception of a couple of inconsiderate pigs that did not flush the toilet or clean up after themselves after using the bathroom.) but there were only two in the hostel. Overall the hostel was clean but I must mention that the walls and especially the doorways/frame are black from long term traffic and hand prints. Periodic cleaning and painting of these areas will make a world of difference. The hostel is very close to the subway, beach, boardwalk and Coney Island. Not perfect but not bad if you are on a budget. It is still a deal and I would stay again.

Great time
i was really felt home far away from home. they owner spoke same language and the hostel has all ikea furniture like home. Even all been friendly and helpful. dislike -- the air conditioner kept me awake because of the loud noise.

Loved this hostel, but difficult to find ...
The staff was very friendly, and the hostel was nice and clean. The rooms were airconditioned which is a huge plus in the hot summer months. I really enjoyed my stay at the Brighton Beach Guesthouse, and did not want to leave! The hostel is a little far from Manhattan, but the hostel is close to the subway station and you can get to Times Square, Central Park, China Town without having to change subway. Only negative was finding the hostel. The address listed on my reservation was incorrect and there are no signs on the building. Luckily a guy saw me with my suitcase and asked if I was looking for the hostel. He then showed me the right building. But overall, a nice and cheap hostel. The area isn't bad either, and I would definitely stay there again!

Cheap ... Nothing else
Walls and doors are quite dirty, but beds are clean and good. It is quiet around the area. People are nice. There is really nothing near there.

Nice hostel but quite far away from Manhattan
Nice small and friendly hostel located in the russian neighborhood, a bit far away from downtown Manhattan (40 mins) but close to the subway station. Close as well to a big beach and to Coney Island. Helpful staff but working most of the time separate from the building where we sleep. However they are easy to get by phone. Cleanliness was ok.

Nice place to hang your hat
This is a great place to stay for someone who needs a place on a budget to use as a place to sleep and as a base of operations. The staff were very friendly and professional. They were sure to show us the room as well as common areas such as bathroom and kitchenette before discussing the balance owed after the deposit on the room. We first noticed the room was a bit hot which the staff immediately had a window A/C installed. When paying the balance on the room they provided a cash receipt with necessary keylock codes without request. I stayed at the Brighton 8th st location and the Facility was clean. Didn't see any bugs, which is a HUGE factor for me. The floors and bathrooms and kitchenette appeared to be in maintained and clean order. Some guests however were not careful to clean the sink after shaving or flushing the toilet. The doors however shut hard despite honest efforts to close them quietly so the facility can be a bit on the noisy side, particularly with other guests opening/closing doors and going up and down the stairs. Also the bathroom didnt have electrical outlets for hair drying. The location is great if you plan on staying around lower Brooklyn or the beach areas, its 2 blocks off the boardwalk and a block from the B/Q trains at Brighton Beach Station. If you're going to Manhattan it is a bit of a hike though.
