This hostel is like many others in Mexico, a Mexican family hotel where a couple of rooms have been turned into dorms. what means forget about any hostel atmosphere or services such as Wi-Fi, book exchange, English speaking staff. On the good side the place is well located, it is beautiful with a nice patio with tables inside, you get (cheap) hotel like service in terms of cleaning, towels, some toiletries. All in all a good deal for the price just it can be a bit boring if you are traveling on your own and expect a hostel to be also a meeting place.
Decent hostel -- clean and mellow but needs fans in the rooms
It's a clean and mellow hostel with just four beds in the dorm rooms but there are no windows in the rooms or fans, so look forward to hot nights.
The best hostel in the world in the best state of Mexico. We were there from March the 1st till April 21st 2007. We will certainly go back for another winter for at least three months.

Hotel y Hostel Allende Reviews from the Web
Liked: Very nice patio, ensuite dorms, tours available. Disliked: Continental breakfast, the mattresses in the dorms are not the best, in the mixed dorm the upper part of the window in the bathroom was missing, so it was a bit cold.
Liked: The setting is beautiful, with view over a courtyard and sofas outside the rooms in the outdoors covered part, so you had opportunity to meet other people even though there wasn't a common room. The guy who works there was really super helpful and gave me lots of info about what to do in Morelia and also about Patzcuaro, where I was going after my stay there.
The room was nice and clean and the shower hot.
The location is within easy walking distance of the historic centre.
I definitely would stay there again if I went back to MOrelia. Disliked: The breakfast was a bit disappointing. It consisted of 2 slices of bread with jam or honey and coffee or camomille tea.

Liked: The owner wanted to charge an extra fee to pay card. He said that as we have a card booking at Hostel Bookers could not pay more card .. only money .. or pay a fee !!!!! But how is this possible? If the site so we do reserve card?? The service was terrible. We give up to stay until the end of the hostel and they did not return the money because we pay card .. we stole a daily! Not at all recommend this hostel! Terrible! Good spot and good value... but one caveat. I arrived about 9:40 PM with a reservation and the desk guy made a comment about not having an arrival time and thinking I wasn't coming. The place was sold out and I got Room A. One should always be careful about taking a room with a letter when all the other rooms have numbers! The room has a hard-wired mechanism high in the bathroom that emits a strong scent - my guess is to cover a mildew problem. It appears that this room may have been a large communal shower room at some time in the past. It is on the far end, under a stairway, and also gets a lot of the noise from the school children. After a 20 hour travel day, I decided to live with it rather than take off in a strange city looking for an alternative. The next day I looked around an all the rest of the rooms looked much better... so I recommend this hostel but suggest you check out your room and|or confirm your room with them and ask for a quiet, non-odoriferous room..Also - the check-in guy charged the full amount, not deducting the deposit with hostelbookers. When I pointed it out, he still said the fee was correct. Only after I insisted he call his manager did I get the (small - but its the principle of the thing) deposit subtracted. He also made no effort to help me find my room until I'd wandered for a while... and never pointed out the kitchen and free water.
The open atmospheer
We liked being able to use the kitchen. All the staff were helpful and friendly. The hostel was painted very attractively in yellows and blues and the rooms were around a small garden with a wonderful tall tree in the centre.
Liked: Great trip to the Monarch Butterfly Sanctuary Disliked: Helena left no negative feedback.
