The Hostelz.com Review

Traveller's Place Hostel is a decent pick for Santiago. One of the best features of the hostel is the staff, all of whom are outgoing, friendly, and available to assist with any questions about the hostel or the city. It is secure, as you must ring the door for entry. There is an issue, however, with entering the hostel late at night. There is no curfew, but reception is not manned twenty-four hours and so if you are going out and returning late at night, you must first advise the staff what time you are coming back.

The Location

Traveller's Place Hostel is nicely located and easy to find in Barrio Brasil. It is very close to the Santa Ana and Los Heroes metro stations. There are supermercados, bars and restaurants just a few minutes' walk from the hostel. The building is a bit small and dated; however, the interior is nicely and brightly decorated.

Rooms and Bathrooms

Three-, five-, and six-bed dorm rooms are available, as well as private rooms for singles, doubles, or triples. The rooms are basic but are large enough to not feel cramped. Lockers are provided, though they are not large enough for a large backpack. They are large enough to store a smaller backpack and/or personal items. The mattresses are comfortable enough and the bunk beds are sturdy. Linens and blankets are provided but not towels. Bedrooms that face the street take in noise from the street outside. The bathrooms are clean; however, the toilets are not always stocked with paper.

Common Spaces

There are a variety of common/lounge spaces, as well as a small area where there are two computers available for use. The entire basement is one large common area with a giant flat-screen TV with cable, couches, and games. There is also a common area on the main floor that doubles as the breakfast eating room. Here there are numerous tables and chairs. There are also small seating areas on the second and third floors outside of the bedrooms. There is also a small outdoor area in the back with tables and chairs. The hostel has the potential to be a social hostel, but it all depends on who is staying there. When we stayed there, it was quiet and there were no planned social activities. Breakfast is provided -- bread and jam, juice, and coffee and tea. There is good Wi-Fi in the hostel.

Summary

Overall, Traveller's Place is a decent hostel. The dorms are a good price for the area, so it is helpful for travelers on a budget.
