ETZzz Hostel

The Review

A more upmarket and very well looked after hostel, ETZzz Hostel lacks in atmosphere a bit but has a lot of facilities compared to other Bangkok hostels. The area is great if you want to be away from the Koh San backpacker ghetto and really see Bangkok. There's a great little night street food market around the corner and it's right next to the underground.

The Location

The hostel is a very easy find, as it's located very close to Lumphini underground station. If coming from the airport, you'll first have to get the sky train to the Makkasan sky train station, then walk across the road to Phetchaburi underground station and head south to Lumphini. Once you've arrived, take exit 1 and head south east for a hundred meters; when you come to a CIMB Bank, turn right, and you'll see the hostel twenty yards away on the left.

Rooms and Bathrooms

The rooms are a little cramped, but the beds are quite large and come with their own reading lights and power outlets. Large, secure lockers are also present in all of the rooms and there's at least one air-conditioning unit in each room/dorm. Toilets and bathrooms with hot water are located on each floor and a daily cleaning service comes round, so the entire place is pretty spotless.

Common Spaces

The top floor is used as the main common area and includes three computers, a few large and very comfy sofas, a plasma TV, tables, and a small bar (which at the time of writing, wasn't staffed and it looks like it hasn't been for while). There's also a really nice rooftop area with a couple of sun lounges where you can hang out, perfect for chilling out with a beer in the sun. Wi-fi is fast and very strong throughout the building but it does seem to cut out occasionally.

If you're not looking for a party hostel and you don't mind spending a little extra for a bit more comfort, then head here. It should be pretty easy to meet other people if you want and it serves as quite a nice retreat from the craziness of Bangkok. Trips and transport can be easily arranged here and they also serve drinks, beer, and light snacks.

Great value, great staff, great location
The rooms are nice, clean with comfy beds. Great location, its a short walk from lumphini metro station with a market with loads of cheap food very close by and a seven eleven for beer next door. The wifi is fast and accessible in all the rooms and even upstairs on the fantastic rooftop communal area. Staff were very friendly and, when asked, helped with suggestions for not only Bangkok but also the rest of my journey. All in all great value for money and a very nice place to stay.

Great value for money, only social with the right people.
I have been staying at EtZzz for almost three weeks now, something that most travelers would not really plan to do. I am doing a yoga course in Bangkok, and since it is hard to find an apartment for just one month, it is nice to stay at a hostel close to public transport (Lumphini station) for a good price. The hostel was not really social when I first arrived, the people in the dorm rooms just would not really talk to each other. Luckily this changed after a week or something, and we started to hang out a lot and have quite some fun. (On the rooftop. During Songkran. Getting cheap food across the street. Watching silly Youtube movies.) For me, it would have been nice if Etzz would provide some kitchen equipment -- like a fridge, microwave and hot water kettle. Being a vegan, it is not that easy to buy food in the streets. The supermarkets have a great variety of foods on offer, but it would be nice to be able to fix myself a bit more of a proper meal. It would also be nice if there would be soap provided in the bathroom areas. Or some pillows on the roof, maybe in a container to keep them dry from the rain? Most of the staff was really friendly, although they weren't always there when you needed them during the evenings or nights. It felt a bit strange to truly have the place to ourselves with no-one keeping an eye out. Everything is industrial (great look!) and cleaned daily, although some disinfection of the dorm would not have been a bad idea. Overall, I am enjoying my time at ETZzz Hostel and would recommend it for people that are looking for an affordable place to hang out and see another bit of Bangkok. Everything is easily accessible from here (the train station, airport, shopping malls, Khao San road), but if you really want to go partying or are looking for a very social place, you might be better off going to Silom or K.S.road area.
