Wombat's City Hostel Vienna - Naschmarkt

The Hostelz.com Review

Wombats City Hostel Vienna - at the Naschmarkt is very large -- it has five floors with lots of rooms on each floor. There are lots of common areas because there is a high demand for them.

The Location

This hostel is four metro stops from the train station and a hundred meters from the metro stop. It is easy to find following the directions on the hostel's website. The hostel is across the road from Naschmarkt and a ten-minute walk from downtown Vienna.

Rooms and Bathrooms

The dorm rooms vary in size from privates to eight-beds. The locks to the doors are electronic and automatically lock after being opened. There are in-room lockers that are accessed by the electronic key card. All of the rooms have ensuite bathrooms. The bathrooms are cleaned every day by the staff. The showers are basic stalls with no shelves, but the bathroom has hooks to hang clothes and towels on and are large enough to change comfortably in. There is a shelf above the sink for toiletries and a shelf above the toilet to store shower stuff when not in use.

Common Spaces

There are several common areas. In the lobby, there are a dozen computer terminals and tables set up for guest use for a charge but is always filled with guests and hard to get a spot to sit. There is a bar and upstairs from the bar is the main eating area. The bar is usually loud and blaring music. The eating area is divided into three sections. One sections has tables and chairs and is where the breakfast buffet is set up every morning. Another section has three tiers and low tables with carpeting and small comfy stools. The last section is the small kitchen for general use -- it has one sink, two refrigerators, and four stoves, leading to long lines waiting for the sink to wash dishes or fill pots with water. There is not a lot of room to maneuver in the kitchen with more than five people in it. This is a social hostel if you make it so -- guests are friendly and young and usually traveling in small groups.

Wombats is clean and large and still has character. The common areas are usually loud and crowded, but there are places to squeeze in and sit. The ensuite bathrooms are really great because they are large and cleaned everyday and only used by the people in the room.

Awesome place to stay
I have had such an amazing time at this great place, one of the most amazing hostels. The staff is super friendly, the place is clean, neat, laid back, and designed to please its guests. The rooms and showers are very clean as well, they provide you with a fresh linen. The quietest hostel i have seen at night. They give you free drink at the bar. Convenient kitchen. Safe as well, plus a great location. I highly recommend this wonderful hostel when you are in town.

Great Location, Friendly Staff
Centrally located next to Naschmarkt with some good food in the area. Staff were friendly and very willing to help.

Your typical "mega-hostel"
The hostel itself was fine. Rooms were in great shape and the en suite was nice. I wish they had more public toilets though. If someone in your room is using the bathroom, the only other option is to use the one in the bar. A bit of a hassle if all you want to do is brush your teeth. Breakfast isn't included but the kitchen is well stocked with everything you need to make breakfast/lunch/dinner. The location of the hostel is also great. Right across the street from an entire strip of markets that have just about anything you want. It's just your typical mega hostel though. Huge groups of people, constantly busy, no real area to chill out. Would I stay here again? Maybe. I'd probably go for a private room instead of a dorm.

New, clean and friendly
It's scale is actually like a hotel more than a hostel. But the staff at the reception are super friendly and helpful. There are a two supermarket down stairs and a number of Chinese supermarkets. Naschmarkt is literally just across the road and the metro station is like a 5 minute walk away. Oh and also the kitchen is really nice.

Loved it!
I was traveling with 2 other people and booked an 8-person room. Upon arriving, the room was changed to a 5-person (which I was quite happy about). Their location next to Naschmarkt is wonderful! We walked everywhere the entire weekend and only used public transportation to get from the train station and back. It was very easy to navigate to the hostel from the station and back, too. We had free WIFI in our room and throughout the hostel. There is a nice lounge/eating area above the WomBar where we played cards and ate a meal. Although the board at the reception said you had to buy towels, I was given one free of charge. The beds were comfortable and the bathroom was clean and spacious. The only complaint I have is the price, but Vienna is an expensive city.

Great clean hostel near everything in Vienna
I stayed in one of the private rooms and loved the keycard entry for hallways and doors. It was very secure. It had nice windows overlooking Vienna and was steps away from the famous Naschmarkt. There was a daily cheap breakfast and deals in the bar. I didn't love that it was such a hotspot for tour and school groups who often commandeered the kitchen. But the staff was very helpful and I would definitely stay here again.
THE Hostel of Europe
I visited the 17 biggest cities of Europe this April and dindt found best hostel than this!! Clean, Fun, Commodities, People, Rooms, Brand new, Price, EVERYTHING!
Recommended hostel in Vienna's Naschmarkt
New hostel in good location -- walking distance to all major attractions and most importantly, minute walk from Metro. Very large rooms, comfortable beds -- each bed has a bedside lamp and socket. Large parts of the hostel are common areas where you can meet people -- the lobby, bar and first floor where there is a kitchen and dining room. Good breakfast for the price (about 4 euros), and staff is willing to help and answer any questions. Recommended.
