No. 14 Lovel Street Hostel Reviews

No. 14 Hostel is an excellent, locally-owned hostel with a quaint feeling and plenty of personality. It is an ideal hostel for couples hoping for an inexpensive getaway in the Blue Mountains or for the solo travelers just passing through and hoping for a cozy space for comfortable socializing aside the fire.

The Location

No. 14 Hostel is located only ten leisurely minutes from the heart of town. Once taking the train into Katoomba, exit the train station and turn left (East) and continue onto Gang Gang Street, which changes into Lovel Street shortly after a walk around the wooded corner. Cross to the left side of the road, and the hostel is marked by a short sidewalk gate, flanked by gardens on either side. Major landmarks such as the Three Sisters are approximately 35-minutes away by foot, although metro and touring buses do run throughout Katoomba.

While admittedly less convenient than other hostels in the area to the grocery stores and cafes in the city's heart, the difference is hardly significant in consideration of the hostel's quaint and noticeably quieter setting.

Rooms and Bathrooms

A single coed bathroom on the main floor is provided. Although a bit awkward at first, the cozy atmosphere of the hostel facilitates becoming familiar with your hostel-mates. The dormitories are not cramped, and features "honor system" lockers for rent for a few dollars. Towels are also available for rent for a similar price. Cleanliness throughout the entire home is very high. Many travelers appear to be "at home", and often opt to wander the hostel in socks as opposed to shoes. The beds are very comfortable, although a bit on the squeaky side.

Common Spaces

A single kitchen serves the needs of the entire hostel, which is complete with several stoves, a convection oven, small appliances, a microwave, and refrigerator. There is sufficient cupboard storage for visitors to the hostel, although refrigerated space may be a bit lean when the hostel is busy. Numerous chairs, sofas, and tables are provided throughout a dining room, lounge, and veranda stretching the periphery of the accommodation. Among all of this space, it is very possible to keep to yourself for a quiet evening, although the homey atmosphere facilitates socializing with other backpackers. A single desktop computer is available for travelers, and Wi-Fi is available through the common areas and infrequently within the dormitories.

This hostel has a charming atmosphere that is not present in many of the mainstream hostels. Special extras are throughout the hostel, such as earplugs, sunscreen, and fresh-baked banana bread, which are available by donation, the proceeds of which go to support an orphanage in Peru. Complete with knowledgeable staff that are available to intelligently suggest trails and sights to fit your interest and ability, this family-owned hostel is an excellent landing spot for an adventure in the Blue Mountains.

Nice little family-owned hostel

Friendly staff, clean rooms, fairly close to train station. Free wifi. Bathroom is unisex on first floor which was a little awkward, but it was clean.

The most friendly hostel in Australia

I spent just 1 day in this hostel, but I enjoyed like no other hostel before. The staff is very friendly and helpful with travel tips in the blue mountains. Everything is clean and the hostel is very quite. It also has a great washing machine, which is not that normal for a hostel.

Beautiful and quiet

This was one of the best hostels I stayed in OZ. Nice, clean, friendly and not too big, also close to the nature. What else do you want? And the town center with the train station is just walking distance. Beautiful to relax.

No. 14 Budget Accommodation is a small and friendly budget hostel, offering mainly double and twin rooms for the more discerning traveler. There are two separate buildings providing accommodation, each with a kitchen, common areas, and bathrooms. The hostel is cosy, but provides all the necessary facilities and space to cook and socialise in a relaxed environment.

The Location

The hostel is about a ten-minute walk from Katoomba railway station, just outside the town centre and in a quiet residential area. Parking is available on adjacent streets. Katoomba is an excellent place to stay to explore the Blue Mountains. There are plenty of buses that travel around the key sites in the area, including Echo Point, which is about ten minutes' bus ride down Katoomba Street. This is a good starting point for well-signposted walks in the Blue Mountains, including the Three Sisters and Katoomba Falls.

Rooms and Bathrooms

Dorm rooms for up to four people are available, as well as double and twin rooms with and without bathrooms. We stayed in a dorm room in the Blue House, which is directly adjacent to the main building. The room is simple and clean, with a separate toilet and shower room next door. There are ample bathrooms for the rooms. There is also a washing machine and dryer in the main building.

Common Spaces

On the ground floor of the Blue House is a dining table and medium-sized kitchen, with all the necessary facilities including a cooker, microwave, toaster, pots and pans, crockery, and cutlery. There is also a comfortable lounge area with a small table, sofas, and a slow combustion fire, as well as a veranda with further seating. In the main building is another kitchen, two common areas with plenty of comfy seating and eating areas, and another veranda. There is also a computer with free internet and a television. This is a quiet but social hostel, with a chilled out vibe.

This hostel is excellent value, considering the quality of the rooms and facilities and the location. We would thoroughly recommend this hostel to backpackers and holidaymakers looking for a chilled out stay in Katoomba.

No 14 is an old mountains guesthouse that has been lovingly restored keeping all the original features. We are a family owned and operated business and we have been in the Blue Mountains for over 20 years. We have a great reputation for friendly welcoming staff and beautiful clean accommodation.

No14 is located 10 minutes walk from Katoomba train station and a 10 minute bus ride to all local attractions like Echo Point, Three sisters and all Leura walks and village. Our staff have lots of local knowledge about what to do and where to go in the Blue Mountains area.

We have a beautiful sunny verandah to capture the morning sun, central heating to keep you cosy in winter, and lovely hot showers (even a bathtub) to relax after a hard bush walk. We cater for quiet peace loving travellers who just want to chill out for a few days. We are definitely not a party hostel so come and relax at No14.

We have Free Breakfast and Free WiFi. So come and see us and you won't be disappointed.
