Description

The Hostelz.com Review

Riad Baraka is a small and homey hostel with curfew at midnight. Hence, it is no party hostel, but still a very sociable place.

The Location

In the center of the old Medina, you’ll find hidden among the many blue buildings this cozy hostel. The hostel is just a few meters away from good restaurants, and of course it's right in the Medina to just stroll around. A small bakery is around the corner for your convenience, since the hostel doesn’t include (but does offer) breakfast.

Rooms and Bathrooms

There are four- or six-bed dorms and a few private room, thus it will not be too crowded. Dorm rooms are somewhat dark and small. Dorms do not have a power outlet per bed, but plenty can be found around the place. Each bed/person does have a small lockbox available (you’ll need your own padlock). And there are also convenient clothing hangers in the dorm. Mattresses are covered in plastic, so they make noise, but are still reasonably comfy.

Appreciatively, the toilets and shower are separated. Shower cabins have hooks and a small closet/box. The showers will delight you with their hot water. An additional toilet is at the downstairs common area.

Common Spaces

There is a cosy common area downstairs, with a small book exchange, where you can lounge. Each floor also has some seating, but the downstairs area with comfy couches is the foremost common area. This is where you’ll be able to order tea, breakfast, and even a beer if you so fancy. The rooftop terrace is also an amazing place to spent a few hours. There is no guest kitchen, but the fridge can be used when asked. All rooms of the hostel seem to be kept clean very well.

Summary

This is a cozy-looking relatively small hostel of three floors and a nice rooftop, with Wi-Fi throughout the building -- even on the roof. It might be a little bit pricier than other hostels, also considering that it doesn’t include breakfast, but offers three paid breakfast options. The smaller setting also adds to the cozy, homey atmosphere. The hostel is operated and managed by (temporary) volunteers, and the (English) owner only shows up in the morning, so you’ll get less of a true Moroccan vibe from the hostel. Nonetheless, it is a very good establishment.

Chefchaouen great hostel
We loved the small town feel of Chefchaouen and Riad Baraka is right in the center of the old medina. Close to restaurants, shops, and main plaza. Clean place. Nice staff. Nice rooms and great terrace. Joe plays great music as well.
