Cadiz Inn Backpackers

The Review

Cadiz Inn Backpackers is a good hostel in every other aspect than sleeping arrangements. Unfortunately, the beds are not comfortable and they massively lag in the middle, leaving your back feeling quite stiff in the morning.

The Location

This hostel is located right next door to the bus station. It is a short walk to get to the beach, downtown Cádiz, a supermarket, or anything that you might need during your stay here in Cádiz.

Rooms and Bathrooms

The rooms here are quite large and they contain lockers in which you can put your valuables if you have a lock. Besides the bad beds, the other opposition to sleep here is the noise -- you will be woken over the course of the night by motorbikes, garbage trucks, loud people on the streets partying, and all sorts of other things. Unfortunately, the only choice is to leave the window open so that the people in the dorm don't cook in the heat, as there is no fan or air conditioning and cop noise (or otherwise, cut the noise out and cook).

There are quite a few different bathrooms on each floor. They are kept clean and are nice to use.

Common Spaces

They have a kitchen and dining area on the ground floor next to reception. This is a well-equipped kitchen and they have everything you need to cook proper meals. There is also a rooftop terrace, which has loads of cushions and chairs set out for having out and chatting to people. On the rooftop, there is also a laundry machine that you can pay to use for laundry, and a clothesline to hang out your clothes to dry when you are done. If you are in a rush, there is also a dryer at cost.

The staff are nice, the place is clean, and there is loads of space to socialise and meet people. Unfortunately, the beds really suck and it's super noisy at nighttime in the streets, meaning if you're a light sleeper, you're not sleeping. It is ok if it is just for a night or two or you are planning to party the night away, but if you're staying for longer, it might be worth looking into other hostels in Cádiz so you can actually get some sleep.

Cadiz Inn Backpackers Hostel is an adequate place to stay when visiting Cadiz. There are no bells and whistles; the negatives slightly outweigh the positives. It is also expensive for what it offers. The Location The location is great -- it's on a small cobblestone street right in the Old Town of Cadiz -- so it is possible to walk anywhere. The hostel is right around the corner from the bus and train station, and with the hostel's directions it's quite easy to find. There is no parking directly in front of the hostel, but it is possible to find parking for a fee at the train and bus station. Rooms and Bathrooms The hostel offers both single-gender and mixed dorm rooms of various sizes; private rooms are also an option. We were disappointed to find upon arrival that linens are not included in the already steep price. The linens consist only of sheets but a thin comforter can be found stored in the room. Towels are also available for an extra fee. Lockers are available in-room -- bring your own lock. During our stay, we were found that an electric water heater for the bathroom was for some reason in our dorm room; it made noise turning off and on all night. The bathrooms seem not to be kept clean, and there are not enough of them to accommodate guests. When we visited, the hostel wasn't full and there were multiple people waiting in line for one shower. It is also worth mentioning that the shower head we found was handheld, as the bracket that held it on the wall was broken. Common Spaces There is a limited amount of common space in the hostel, especially if the weather isn't sunny. There is one small indoor room -- the only common space inside -- comprising kitchen and dining room all in one. The other available common space is a wonderful rooftop terrace, but we found it closed when we arrived in the evening and weather wouldn't have allowed to spend much time there anyway. The hostel has a party vibe but not overwhelmingly, with free sangria every evening, but it's still quiet enough not to be involved if you're in need of a quiet night. The kitchen is a bit too small for more than one person to cook. The breakfast is minimal. Summary Cadiz Inn Backpackers will suffice for a night in Cadiz, but it has many technical issues, besides a feeling of being crowded and not having much of a vibe besides being a boarding house.
