Safestay Barcelona Sea is a hostel by the waterside in Barcelona. It is conveniently located near downtown Barcelona and within walking distance to top tourist sights. There are several metro stops nearby the hostel, with convenience stores and ATM within walking distance. That being said, the reception at the hostel lacks warmth and hospitality and will not go the extra mile for travelers; it is all about money and business. This lack of care and concern is seen extending into the facilities, and the amenities have bare minimum acceptability for travelers -- it's not a place of comfort, but fine for just staying the night.
The redeeming factor of this hostel is its location. Safestay Barcelona Sea Hostel is situated right on the beach. The hostel is within walking distance to many of the top sights in Barcelona, including the Gothic Quarter, parks, and museums. There are several Metro stops within blocks and there are convenience stores and restaurants right next door. There is a bank with an ATM within two blocks of the hostel. The waterfront is literally right outside the door, making it a unique location. There is an extremely touristy feeling to the area, so travelers seeking peaceful or off-the-beaten-path locations may want to avoid this.
Rooms and Bathrooms
The mixed dormitory is set up like barracks, and there is one impossible-to-climb loft bed several feet below the ceiling with a rickety metal ladder that is coming out of the wall. The bunk beds are minimally acceptable in comfort and cleanliness, and the bedding is cheap. The whole feeling of the room is that not a lot of care has been taken; it is just a bare minimum business.
The bathroom is extremely small and located within the dormitory; the toilet room is so small and narrow but has acceptable cleanliness. The bathroom is so small, nothing fits. There are lockers right outside the bathroom assigned to each bed to store luggage. There are two shower stalls. The shower is borderline unacceptable because it does not stay on -- it is designed to keep having to press the button for water, another money-saving tactic. Shower stalls have an acceptable amount of cleanliness. Again, these facilities are fine if travelers just want to stay one night or have a place to sleep while exploring, but are not designed with the comfort of the customer in mind, and surely there are better and more personable hostels in Barcelona.
There is no kitchen or living room, but there is a breakfast provided for a small fee within the brightly lit cafe in the front, which is presentable with ample seating and many food and drink options; but again it lacks a personable feeling, and is just another money-making scenario with no warmth from the staff.
Overall, Safestay Barcelona Sea Hostel is acceptable but not recommended, except for the excellent waterside location to see sights and with convenient access to other parts of the city.
