Mossel Bay Backpackers is the longest running backpackers' in Mossel Bay, with twenty years of experience in this very popular place to stay both for international and domestic tourists. Its combination of beach and nature walks as well as plenty of activities and adrenaline sports means that it is blessed with plenty of accommodation options and budget backpackers have a wide choice of places to stay here.
Situated at the eastern end of town on Marsh Street, Mossel Bay Backpackers is just a short, uphill walk to the lighthouse and headland nature trail. The beach is a ten-minute walk away and the center of town is also a ten-minute walk away.
Rooms and Bathrooms
There are seventeen rooms in this huge place, catering to every budget. From dorm beds to luxury doubles and family rooms, Mossel Bay Backpackers has it all. There are a grand total of seven dorm rooms here, ranging from four- to eight-bed dorms. All of them are immaculately kept, with strong wooden bunks and good, crisp, warm bedding. All the rooms in Mossel Bay Backpackers are en suite, and that includes the dorms. Some of the dorms are carpeted and there are individual lights for each bed. The bathrooms are clean and there is twenty-four-hour hot water. The private rooms are fantastic value. They are spacious, beautifully decorated, and most have TV and a tea station.
As you walk into the building toward the reception area, you will see the very spacious breakfast room on your left. To your right, you walk along the wide corridor to the first line of rooms. The corridor is scattered with cushioned sofas and small tables for relaxing. In the back garden, there is a swimming pool and tables and chairs liberally spread around. Mossel Bay Backpackers have their own bar and a very comfortable lounge behind it with a pool table and an ATM machine, should you be spending a little more than you anticipated. A braai (BBQ) area is provided by the bar and there is even a small stage for evening music concerts. At the back of the property, guests will find another building containing yet more rooms and dorms.
On the top floor, the huge communal kitchen sits with a view right over the rooftops to the bay and the ocean. The kitchen is fully equipped with kettles, toasters, microwaves, and fridges enough for as many guests as there might be. There are six separate cooking stations with a two-ring gas stove at each and tons of pots, pans, cutlery, and crockery. The kitchen leads out to a balcony with seating and tables and that fantastic view over the bay. Free Wi-Fi is provided and is available throughout the property.
This is luxury backpacking! Mossel Bay Backpackers is big but very well run and professional, and absolutely immaculately kept. Backpackers sleeping in the dorms also get use of the facilities provided for the guests in the private suites. It might not be an intimate backpackers, but if you're looking for a little bit of comfort and luxury at a budget price, then this is it.

Mossel Bay Backpackers Reviews from the Web
Location and facilities
The vibe was nice and relaxed. setting is beautiful.
Great place with a friendly atmosphere. Nice and clean, nice pool, sun deck and chill out spaces, cool staff and lots of info available on tours and restaurants to go to....free tea and coffee is always nice, and there is a good bar with cheap beers. They will book the tours for you too. Also appreciate the unlimited wifi for R30. All round good place.
location...and rooms were nice
Mossel Bay Backpackers was a great place to call home while starting off a trip down the Garden Route. The staff are top notch, offering all of the information you need to enjoy a visit to the Bay, while fostering an enviornment in the hostel that makes you feel right at home. The facilities offered a great chill room to meet other travellers with several smaller areas if you wanted to hang with your mate or relax by the pool. The unadvertised free Wi-Fi out back was a big plus!
Beautifully appointed rooms at very reasonable prices - a great courtyard with swimming pool, and very nicely located within easy reach of town restaurants and the beautiful 'point' with beach and seaside dining options.
great location close walking distance to beach. Lots of activity choices.
Nice average place to meet fellow travellers. BazBus stop if you use them. Safe place as the whole Mossel Bay is too.
All the staff were friendly and the location is great

It was spacious, clean and the people were friendly.
The atmosphere, staff and people in general
good location close to the beach, nice pool area
the staff are really friendly and helpful the accommodation was clean and very comfortable a great place to be
Good looking girl worked there
The staff were all excellent and went out of there way to help us and make sure we had a great time. It was in the town centre though it was quiet enough so that sleep was eay.
Situated close to the beach and the Inner and Outer Point surf breaks, this is a kiff location for surfers, and well, non-surfers too as they can unwind around the swimming pool in the peaceful garden while the brotherhood hit some sick waves!
If the urge to Do Something strikes, simply wave a finger and get them to arrange (and book) a fun filled day out! And if that silly urge is nothing more than window shopping, well, we're right in town, so life couldn' t be any easier!!
We offer breakfast and dinner!!
