Sitting right by the R40 that takes the scenic route from White River to Hazyview, Hazyview Adventure Backpackers is well positioned for those making their way into Kruger National Park via the Numbi or Phabeni gates.
On R40, two kilometers west of the junction with R537 and five kilometers from Hazyview center, this property is just fifteen kilometers northwest of Kruger Park’s Numbi Gate and fifteen kilometers west of Phabeni Gate.
Rooms and Bathrooms
Occupying a gentle slope down the side of a ridge, this place has chalets, cabins, and safari tents. Arriving at Hazyview Adventure Backpackers, the first thing you see is the large sign for the Jungle Bar and Restaurant. This is right by the roadside and is popular with the locals for its big-screen TVs. The bar appears to be the main business here these days, as the backpackers, tucked away behind the bar, has seen better days and looks a bit forlorn and neglected.
The rooms are small and basic. The double cabins are just big enough for the bed only. The carpeted eight-bed dorm is ok for space and is reasonably comfortable with good mattresses. There is a wall-mounted fan, but it only points toward four of the beds and many of the power points don’t work. There is a sofa in the dorm and three small tables. Don’t sleep in one of the dorm beds by the kitchen -- only a badly covered window blocks the light from pouring in at night and you’ll be woken by those having breakfast early.
Also next to the dorm is a bathroom, and following the boardwalk down is the common shower and toilet block -- all pretty basic, but fairly clean. The bamboo partitions between the shower cubicles give little privacy, though. Hot water is available twenty-four hours.
Right outside the dorm is a braai, which is on the roof of the shower block, and at the end of the building is the communal kitchen. It has a toaster, kettle, microwave (it was not working when we stayed), fridge, two gas ranges, plus pots, pans, utensils, with free tea and coffee all day. There is a sofa and a couple of armchairs up from the dorm, where the backpackers’ bar used to be, but this has been usurped by the Jungle Bar and Restaurant out front. This is where you order and eat your food, if you're not self-catering. There’s a good selection of beers and spirits, plus table football and a pool tables as well as the aforementioned big-screen TVs. There is a small swimming pool on the grounds, but the water was very cloudy during our visit.
Traffic noise from the R40 reaches the rooms, but it isn’t overly invasive, and from the bar there was little noise travel. There is no Wi-Fi here and it seems, in general, the hostel has not been given the attention it needs to keep it to a good standard. There’s nothing radically wrong with it, but could do with some TLC. The adventure seems to have disappeared. It’s still ok, though, as a base for Kruger.

Hazyview Adventure Backpackers Reviews from the Web
What an absolutely lovely place. Received a warm welcome from the minute I arrived. The backpackers has lovely little cottages and tents for sleeping arrangements that are very comfortable. The kitchen provided has the basics and there are private or communal braai spots. If you are looking for something to do when you are there the staff will help out with finding what's best suited for you. The wifi is iffy at best and often doesn't work, great for being of the grid, not great if you need WiFi
Liked: The owners cannot do enough for you and were so nice. The property is very close to the main road but that can be either good or bad depending on what you want. It was in a great location to be able to choose which Kruger Park gate I wanted to go in and out of. I stayed here for a few nights at the beginning of my trip and again at the end of my trip. Definitely great value for money. Didn't like: See above.
Liked: This place is amazing!!!!Kind friendly owners and staff and as it was quiet when we arrived they gave myself and brother an upgrade from sleeping in a dorm room to our very own family room!! Wonderful experience! Didn't like: Absolutely nothing
Hazyview Adventure backpackers is situated in one of the many beautiful valleys, along the Panorama route in Mpumalanga, South Africa. We have magnificent views of the Klein Drakensberg escarpment mountain range, stretching out to the bushveld (Kruger National Park) and are bordered in by the powerful Sabie and Blyde rivers.
Take in some of the amazing wildlife and nature in and around the backpackers. Enjoy your day out by going on a safari in the Kruger National park, which is only 12km from our door step. Day and Night safari’s and guided bushwalks can be arranged at our travel desk. Delight your senses on the Panorama route with the spectacular views at "God's window”, "Bourke's Luck potholes”, “the Three Rondavels”, a number of beautiful waterfalls, “the Sudwala caves” and many more. Adventure is on our door step and we provide them all from river rafting, abseiling to quad biking and a whole lot more in-between. Hiking, climbing and mountain biking routes in the area are some of the best in the world.
After an adventurous day come and chill out in one of our comfy lounges, enjoy a home cooked meal over some good conversation at Voodoo bar or relax in the boma around a hypnotising African fire.
We offer dorms, A family room and furnished tents, for either couples or singles, in our tented camp.
If spending the day lounging around the pool, lying in a hammock and is your idea of a relaxing day then this place is "a great place to kick back!”
