Nice Way Sintra Hostel

The Review

Nice Way Sintra Hostel is a lovely, wood-floor, Victorian-style home situated moments away from the go-to sights of Sintra amid bricked streets and nearby forest. Staff are welcoming and hospitable and quick to assist when needed. This is a proper base for visiting Sintra, and a excellent change from everyday hostels.

The Location

Situated just a few blocks down hill from the old town Sintra (where a handful of restaurants reside), the hostel is best accessed by car -- but be warned, in high season/summer, parking can be nightmarish, with steep, one-way streets and sharp turns. There are buses to town, making it an easy walk to the hostel otherwise. Street parking near the hostel is free when you can find it. The hostel is not wheelchair accessible. And if doing your own cooking, be sure to hit the market outside of old town Sintra before arrival, as there are only restaurants in the immediate vicinity.

Rooms and Bathrooms

Dorm rooms are mixed-sex double bunks. Comfortable and clean, the rooms are spacious with many windows and lockers nearby. Decor is basic but functional, letting the antiquity of the home shine. Bathrooms are clean, mixed-sex use, and toilets are well stocked. Showers can be a bit cramped but they give good pressure with plenty of hot water. Electronic room keys are provided.

Common Spaces

The common areas are lovely, with a beautiful green garden and pond just outside of the large dining room. There are plenty of opportunities to meet other guests and the kitchen is spacious enough and functional with modest cook and dishware to prepare your own meals or join in with others. At the top floor are two internet computers for guest use; Wi-Fi is swift.

Staying at Nice Way Sintra Hostel is a good idea, as it is a wonderful retreat away from the squalor of Lisbon (many travelers day-trip to Sintra). It's not a budget-budget place, though breakfast is included (toast, spreadable cheese, cereal, coffee, tea, butter, milk, and jam). The hostel provides an excellent rest from the hustle of the city. It is a home, after all, and feels very much like it.

Excellent hostel
Best way to go to hostel is by car? in summer driving around Sintra won't be a pleasant experience. It is on a hill, but the whole of Sintra is. Even up hill the main square by the national palace is a 10 min walk away. There are little grocery stores closer but a big Pingo Dose supermarket is 30 min walk away, or one stop on the train. Walking around Sintra is one of its attractions. The hostel is well run and even has a bathtub! Wifi in all rooms. Staff excellent. Would be great in summer when full and buzzing with people hanging out in the big garden in the Sun.
