Travel Joy Hostels combines great value dorm accommodation with a comfortable British-pub atmosphere in a quiet London area, with some welcome added touches such as excellent breakfast and free drinks.
The Location
Travel Joy Hostels is part of the King William IV Pub by London’s Thames River, in between Chelsea and Westminster. The hostel is in a quiet residential area, offering a good-value respite from London’s busy tourist centre, while still providing a pleasant social atmosphere at the pub for guests and locals.
The Pimlico tube stop is a ten-minute walk away, providing connections across the city. London’s Victoria Coach Station is also within walking distance for long-distance bus services.
Rooms and Bathrooms
This is a small hostel of nine rooms, with varying configurations ranging from four to twelve dorm beds spread across mixed and female options with en suites or shared bathrooms. The bunk beds and provided linen are comfortable enough, with power outlets at each bed and privacy curtains on lower bunks.
For security, there are electronic key cards for guests to access the hostel main door and the individual rooms. There are large lockers in the rooms for use with your own padlocks or with hired locks from reception.
Note that hostel rooms are located up narrow stairs on the second and third level of the building, without elevator access.
The shared bathrooms are unisex and are kept clean, including a shower room of three enclosed cubicles with limited room for changing. There is one separate shower room with toilet included for more space if you can get it. Towels are provided free for guests. Free Wi-Fi works throughout the pub area and dorm rooms.
Common Spaces
The common area for hanging out is in the lounge area in the pub, with lovely leather couches as well as tables inside and out front. There are also social activities during the week, including nightly movie screenings with free popcorn, beer pong, open-mic nights, and salsa classes.
Travel Joy provides a substantial free breakfast for guests in the pub lounge area, including omelettes and smoothies made to order, in addition to juices, cereal, toast, fruit, yoghurt, cheese, ham, and more.
While there isn’t a kitchen available or food storage area for guest use during their stay, the pub offers an affordable Thai and English food menu on weekday evenings and lunch/dinner on weekends. As an added nice touch, Travel Joy provides free nonalcoholic drinks to guests throughout their stay, including juices, coffee/tea, hot chocolate, and fizzy drinks. Guests also enjoy discounts on alcoholic drinks throughout the day, including a good daily happy hour.
Summary
In addition to the features already mentioned, the hostel also helps to make for a pleasant stay by providing free earplugs and hire-by-deposit for helpful items such as padlocks, adaptors, hairdryers, and bedside lights. Travel Joy Hostels takes great care to provide a welcoming atmosphere to its visitors, and the friendly staff seem to enjoy their work here. Description
Travel Joy Hostels is a relaxed and chilled-out hostel which focuses on personal service.
We are the only London hostel overlooking the river. Were extremely centrally located between Chelsea and The Houses of Parliament.
We provide free tea/coffee/soft drinks to residents at all times, free linen/towels, free earplugs, free sweets, Wi-Fi in the entire building and free continental breakfast. There are no hidden costs.
There is bicycle dock and a 24-hour bus outside the door that goes every ten minutes to Victoria Station, Houses of Parliament, Trafalgar Square, Soho, Oxford Street and Camden.
We have a Thai and European restaurant on-site as well as a tour- and theatre-tickets desk.
We have PCs in the lounge area which can be accessed for a small fee.
We also exchange at no commission and no spread. We just take the rate from xe.com. (As such, we are the best place to exchange in the UK).
Our other facilities include a postal service, card phones, a washing machine/dryer, iron/ironing board, hair dryers, on-street parking and free luggage storage.
Our large bar below the hostel is a great place to relax and socialise, with guest drink specials. You can also BBQ on our terrace or hang out in our common room. Our building offers all modern facilities and guests can feel very safe and comfortable.
We can assure you that your stay with Travel Joy Hostels Chelsea will be enjoyable and relaxing and give you a wonderful taste of Central London.
We have Free Salsa Classes on Wednesdays, an Open Mic Night on Fridays and Live Music on Saturdays where you can take the stage and show your talent. We also have deals with the major London nightclubs and various pub crawl operators.

• From Gatwick Airport:
• With a timetable departure of every 15 minutes, and with a journey time of just 30 minutes, Gatwick Express is the easiest way to get from London Gatwick Airport to Victoria Train Station, then you have to take the London Underground on the Victoria Line Southbound and get off at Pimlico Station which is the first stop.
• From Heathrow Airport:
• From 05:00 to 23:00, take the London Underground on the Piccadilly Line, change at Green Park for the Victoria Line Southbound. Get off the tube at Pimlico Station which is the second stop.
• From Stansted Airport:
• The Stansted Express runs every 15 minutes and reaches London Liverpool Street in 45 minutes. Trains depart from Stansted Airport rail station, situated directly below the terminal. The London Underground connections which will bring you to Liverpool Street, from there take the Central Line Westbound to Oxford Circus, change there for the Victoria Line Southbound. Get off the tube at Pimlico Station which is the third stop.
• Also, Stansted Airport's bus and coach station will bring you to Victoria Coach Station. You can either take a taxi for �6/7 or walk; please see directions below. Coach tickets can be bought at the ticket desk in arrivals (open 06:00 to 01:00), in the coach station (24 hours, seven days a week) or on board.
• From Luton Airport:
• East Midlands Trains (formerly Midland Mainline) operate a frequent service from Luton Airport Parkway station to St. Pancras International. Average journey time is 35 minutes. Where you are at St Pancras/King�s Cross Station take the London Underground - Victoria Line Southbound, and then get off at Pimlico Station which is the seventh stop.
• Directions from Victoria Coach Station by walk:
• Head southwest on Buckingham Palace Rd/A3214 toward Semley Place, turn left onto Ebury Bridge/B324, at the roundabout, take the 2nd exit onto Sutherland St, then turn right onto Turpentine Lane, continue onto Peabody Ave, continue onto Turpentine Lane, slight right onto Lupus St, turn left onto Grosvenor Rd/A3212.
• Directions from Pimlico Station by walk:
• Once you get out of Pimlico Tube Station look for Aylesford Street or St Georges Square. Walk to the end of either of these roads in the direction of the Thames River and Grosvenor Road. At Grosvenor Road turn right and continue 500m until you see Battersea Power Station on the other side of the river which we are directly opposite to.
