Arrowrock Lodge

The Review

ArrowRock Hostel is an amazing, perfect place to get away from it all, and yet still has plenty to offer.

The Location

The hostel looks out on Lough Arrow; the lake makes for a beautiful walk or you can explore it by renting a rowboat. A short drive away there is the old Carrowkeel Tombs -- it is a nice easy hike up to the tombs and you can even crawl inside of a few of them. The view from the tombs over the valley and lake is beautiful. As with most directions in Ireland, it is easiest to follow landmarks rather than streets. The owner will gladly e-mail you instructions to find the hostel; we highly recommend using these instructions rather than GPS.

Rooms and Bathrooms

There are a variety of bedroom to meet any needs you may have; all are kept up very nicely. The bathrooms are spotless and towels are provided.

Common Spaces

There is a large common area with a double fireplace. We spent time there during most of our visit just relaxing and meeting other travelers. The kitchen is amazing, with all the tools you need to cook. The dinning area is lined with huge windows looking out to the lake. There is a TV/game room; we hung out there just because of the ambiance rather than the games. The TV room is the old bar from when the hostel used to be a hotel. In good weather, you can sit on a beautiful patio and lawn facing the lake.

There is Wi-Fi throughout the hostel; if you do not have a computer, there is one at the reception for guests to use. We did not see any lockers or specific storage area for luggage/valuables; however, we are certain the owner would be willing to find a way to accommodate your needs. The rooms do have locks and the hostel is locked at night but there is no lockout time for guests.

The owners, Craig and Mary, are wonderful and will make you feel like friends from the moment you arrive. We arrived for a short, one-night stay before moving on to our next location. Craig made our experience and the accommodations so nice that first night that on our way back through the next week, we stayed for three more nights. They are extremely helpful in making sure you experience all that the area has to offer. When you stay, be sure to spend some time talking with Craig and Mary. They make this hostel all that it is.

Quiet, comfortable, friendly in beautiful location
Arrowrock Lodge is a small, quiet and very comfortable hostel located in beautiful surroundings. The hostel is well appointed and the owner and staff were friendly and helpful. I recommend this hostel to anyone looking to enjoy a restful country idyll.
Peaceful, clean, wonderful hosts give this a B&B feel, beauty
This was the best Hostel of our three country tour in August 2010. The hosts went out of their way to help, provide excellent service and make us feel quite at home. Compared with other hostels, this felt like a nice B&B or hotel. Plus we made a lovely dinner in their great kitchen. The view over the lake for dinner made our day. You will not regret this choice.
