St Christopher's Berlin Hostel

The Review

St Christopher's Inn - Berlin is very similar to others in its chain across Europe. Breakfast is free, the common area is a bar, there is no kitchen, and the rooms are spacious.

The Location

This hostel is steps away from a subway stop -- you can reach anywhere in the city the metro goes. It is about a forty-minute subway ride from the bus station and a ten-minute ride from the train station. It is possible to walk into downtown Berlin, but it would take at least half an hour.

Rooms and Bathrooms

The dorm rooms have electronic locks and a few small in-room lockers, but not enough for everyone in the room to have their own locker. The lockers are large enough to fit a laptop and a small purse, but not large enough for luggage. The beds are bunked and there are several options for number of beds in the room. The bedrooms are large and there is plenty of space for luggage on the floor without tripping over it.

There are gender-separated bathrooms on each floor, with several stalls for toilets and several stalls for showers. These are just large enough to close the door, but not large enough to change in.

Common Spaces

The main common space is the bar on the ground floor and since it is open to guests not staying at the hostel, it is often crowded. There is a loft area above the bar with a pool table, several couches, and a TV, but it is not quiet due to the bar below. There are also pay lockers in this area as well for luggage storage. This is a very social hostel since the only common area is a bar and is lots of fun when there is a good crowd present. Guests are mostly tourists or backpackers and are young and looking for a fun night out. Note, there is no quiet common area space. The only way to get away from the noise of the bar is to head back to the bedrooms.

This hostel is big and loud and fun. It's a party hostel and caters to the younger backpacker crowd. Breakfast is provided for free in the morning and the bar has great happy hour specials during the week for both food and drink.

The perfect hostel for young people
The best hostel I visited ever. If you are young this is your hostel, at night, the bar is a perfect place to meet people, you can share your table with others and enjoy live music. The rooms are upstairs, so the noise is not a problem and you have your own light, plug and locker but the bath is out of the room but it works good. You have a complete breakfast and also there're good meals, so if you are a traveler and you want to rest and meet the real Berlin, this is your place.

Large, but with character
St. Christopher's Inn Berlin manages to avoid the pitfalls of most hostels its size. The staff are extremely nice, and will go out of their way to help you out. The common areas are maximised for social interaction, and the bar downstairs attracts not just hostelers, but locals, expats and others. The beer is cheap, the food is good, and there is a pretty extensive free breakfast each morning. Centrally located right next to alexandrplatz and a ubahn station. The rooms are nice(although the biggest one is designed rather antisocially) and each bunk has lots of space, power and a curtain. Only things keeping this hostel from a perfect score are the lack of quiet common areas and lack of a kitchen. Come here for the party, and you will not be disappointed.

Corporate Organization
Everything was organized well and comfortable. Waking up for the free breakfast is a little difficult otherwise staff was friendly and there is a bar right there.
Rooms and facilities were great, staff were poor.
Beds, showering facilities were fine. Staff were generally very rude. Arrived in a large group and they made us all feel unwelcome and acted as if they expected us to cause trouble. A friend had a complaint regarding the food and the way the staff handled it was incredibly rude and condescending and was probably the worst customer service I have experienced. Not impressed.
This is the smaller of the two Circus hostels in Berlin. It's close to central Berlin, located in a residential area where not much action happens. A subway stop (Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz) is immediately across the street. Breakfast is extra and served at a restaurant on street level. The rooms are located above through a locked entryway door. The reception is open 24 hours. Smoking is allowed in rooms so this easily could be a definite deterrent to non-smokers because the rooms aren't easily ventilated. Be warned as some people specifically search this out just so they can smoke in their rooms and be comfortable. The reception/commons room offers an internet terminal and drinks. Bathrooms and rooms are well looked after. Modern music plays in the commons area, typically dance/techno. The hostel has a smaller atmosphere with only 80 beds. This hostel does not wrench of smoke, but its presence is apparent.
Extraordinary atmosphere, beautiful, and very kind people. That are the most important things to make a hostel a nice hostel. The rest is less important, although that rest was also ok. I don't had any problems with the food, the shower, the bed. The only critical note I can mention is the beer. But that's not the fault of the bar staff. I just recommend the owner(s) of the hostel to import some Belgian beer, because that's the only beer which may be called beer.
Smoking in the foyer and computer area sucked. The TV room was ok, and it was a pretty social kind of a hostel. The kitchen was pretty tiny and it did not have many facilities, but they did do your dishes for you!!! Nice modern rooms, etc. The showers did kind of block up though (not just one or two of them either!!). A good-enough spot to throw your bags down for a while.
Great place. There are lots of young people who are ready to party, after they have drunk some beers in the hostel. Staff are very helpful. No curfew or lockout. 24-7 service.
