Wanderfalls Guesthouse & Hostel

The Hostelz.com Review

Wanderfalls Guesthouse & Hostel has everything a traveler could want. Upon check-in, the owner, Carol, gives each guest a map, a guidebook, and an introduction to what to see and do in the area. She explains how to get to falls and what areas to avoid, and offers many valuable tips that can really enrich your stay in Niagara Falls.

The Location

The best thing about this hostel is the location. Restaurants, coffee shops, drugstores, public transportation, and even the falls themselves are all within one mile of the hostel. There is plenty of parking for those with vehicles, and the neighborhood is very quiet and safe.

Rooms and Bathrooms

The property is well-maintained and rooms are clean and cozy. Each door has a small foam pad installed near the latch to quiet the sound of the door closing, and the hardwood floors are nearly silent. There are small closets with lockers in each bedroom, but they don't provide much room for guests to put away their belongings. However, there is space to store some luggage under the bunk beds. The beds are comfortable and the linens fresh and clean. There is one full bathroom on the floor with the sleeping quarters, and another full bathroom in the basement. Everything is clean, well kept, and in proper working condition.

Common Spaces

Common areas include a lovely porch with seating and ashtrays for smokers; a dining room; a modern kitchen; and a lounge area with a couch, comfortable chairs, and a computer with free internet access. There is a small book exchange and a few board games. A very fast Wi-Fi connection is available throughout the house at no extra cost. Towel hire and laundry services are available for a reasonable fee. The staff at Wanderfalls encourage their guests to make use of the recycling bins on the front porch.

The owner says about eighty-five percent of their guests come from outside the United States, and that travelers of all ages are welcome at Wanderfalls. There is a private room available and families can also be accommodated. Everyone we met at Wanderfalls was friendly. The cheerful environment and lovingly maintained facilities make Wanderfalls among the best of the best when it comes to providing travelers with a home away from home.

Wonderful stay
I felt safe and welcome during every moment of my brief stay. The location is close to the immigration bridge and is easy to find. The couple who run the hostel are amazing -- I will make a point to return here when I visit Niagara Falls again!!
My 1st Hostel experience was Wanderfalls!
I have never been open to shared accommodations and communal living. But My 1st Hostel experience was Wanderfalls! I got what I paid for and more. Wanderfalls is a very popular summertime destination for International travelers. It was like staying at my sister's from another Mother's home. I arrived unprepared, and missed a few tricks, rules, and directions, such as train station taxi fare rip offs, and forgetting to bring towels, and not studying the various bus routes quickly. The Wanderfallsstaff was most helpful when I did have time to familiarize. Such as a working kitchen, 7 AM coffee, preferred taxi drivers, and 3 blocks from a supermarket and bus transfer station. Wanderfalls is a 30 min walk to the American Falls, or $3.40 taxi, or $1.75 hourly bus route. I booked four nights, a month early, and could get two nights in a bunk bed private room, with a move to a dual bunk bed, four bed "dorm" room for the weekend. The mattress was firm and good for my back. The weekend was booked solid. Wanderfalls is not responsible for the weather that on Saturday NIGHT was a freaky hazy, hot, and humid, and made for sweltering slumber with as little clothes as possible. There are windows in each room, and fans, But the AC is generally limited. There is a bathroom upstairs and a toilet and sink room and a shower stall room in the basement. Which serves to alleviate wait times. All in All wanderfalls is a great value, strategically located, in a scenic, majestic, historic, still somewhat downtrodden and depressed western New York city, by the oldest state park in the USA. This is really convenient to the falls and the local sights. Very friendly lady, very helpful with connections and local information. Nice kitchen and common areas. Very clean and comfortable bedroom and bathrooms, lots of hot water for showers. Wi-Fi free and a computer to access.
