Sir Cedric's Fox Glacier Pod Hostel & Inn is recommended for a one-night stay for solo travelers, as it is easily found, provides enough amenities, and is close to food/drink and petrol stations.
Fox Glacier is quite a small town in itself, which means that the hostel is very well located in terms of facilities. The hostel shares its location with a pub/restaurant, which is quite accommodating if visitors are looking for somewhere to eat or drink. There are several other pubs and places to eat nearby and also a service station/fuel station. There is parking available outside the hostel and on the streets nearby. The hostel is easy to find and located not far from the main highway -- although noise is not an issue.
Rooms and Bathrooms
The dorm rooms are located off a main corridor and at the rear of the building (next to the restaurant/pub). There is one key for the main dorm room and several dorms off the main corridor. Within the room there are five beds, two bunks, and one single bed. These beds have curtains, linen/pillow, small shelf, personal light, and charging point (USB and plug).
There are several bathrooms, some of which are shared with the general public (people from the restaurant/bar). There is a main bathroom for females and a main bathroom for males. The female bathroom contains basins and mirrors, showers, and toilets. The bathrooms are relatively clean, have hot water, and are quite spacious. Within the shower cubicles, there is enough space to store your things and enough room for drying and changing. The cubicles have doors and within the cubicle the shower has a curtain. There is a small shelf in the shower cubicle and one hook on the back of the door.
The hostel has a common kitchen with dining space and a common area for visitors to hang out and mingle. The kitchen is quite dilapidated and messy. There are sufficient utensils, plates, and pots for cooking. There is a fridge, sink, stove, oven, and microwave. Kettle and toaster are supplied also. The hostel does not give a very social vibe, but being connected to the restaurant and bar helps. This hostel is not a party hostel and there are limited areas for visitors to meet other backpackers.
More than one night's stay at this hostel is not recommended, as it is quite hostile and does not facilitate a social environment.

Great Place. Friendly and helpful staff, clean
Great hostel; great town to spend a couple nights in. While there's not much to do besides the glacier, this hostel is one of the nice places to stay. Staff are very friendly, and helpful with letting you know what to do and what to see. Kitchen was good enough to cook in, and met some people while making food. Overall, would definitely recommend and stay again.
Bathrooms are clean, bed linens are clean, fellow travelers are normal, kitchen is clean and well stocked with utensils. Shane is awesome.

DO NOT BOOK. Arrived from Christchurch to find the place closed. Called the number on the door who said they had been closed for months. Never apologized and was very unhelpful. They never attempted to contact us to say they were closed after we made the booking. Was then left stranded to find accommodation for the night. Yet to receive the deposit returned. Even the locals didnt have anything positive to say about the hostel.
Had a lovely stay here. Staff great. Although the room we were initially allocated at the back of the hostel smelled heavily of damp, they had no problem moving us to another room. Ive marked them down for security, because I accidentally used my key on the wrong room and it worked! Didnt make us feel quite so secure, but we had no worries.
It's an old and somewhat smelly hostel - the rooms are okayish (we had to turn off the small fridge during the night due to the noise it produced), bathrooms are good, however all other facilities are horrendous. The kitchen looks and smells disgusting, this was the only hostel during our NZ trip where we entered the kitchen and went out right away. We would not come back here.
The beds were amazing and I met some great people there but the staff were rude and over charged me and the wifi was inconsistent at best, but probably best down bed Ive been in
The people who worked the front desk were unhelpful/ seemingly uncaring about who they were checking in - offering no information/ unable to answer questions.
The bathroom showers had no mats and there were no paper towels/hand dryer to use after using washing hands.
My room was right above the smoke pit so the room smelled of smoke any time, which was often, people were having a cigarette.
And, I waited an hour for my food in an unbusy bar. Overall, it seemed people just didnt care.
Liked: The pod bunks were great with your own light, power socket and curtains. Didn't like: The wifi rarely worked for anyone, and showers were often cold
Liked: The beds were nice and fancy looking Didn't like: The manager was rude!I booked for 4 beds but later on I asked the manger (Hitesh Talreja) to cancel two rooms and keep only two rooms and he confirmed that but at the time of heck in he said I haven't give him notification about cancelling two rooms and and also he was shoutig at me in front of other people. He actually charged me for 4 beds untill next day I found the email I sent to him (below) and then he reimbursed me:Hitesh To email@example.com/24/15 at 11:12 AMHi Jacob, Not a problem I have cancelled two rooms see you soon Please feel free to contact me for any further queries RegardsHitesh TalrejaManagerBeside the rude manager, other problem was the kitchen was small and usually dirty (no washing liquid or drying cloths, etc).
Liked: Very good Didn't like: Nothing
Liked: The manager was very friendly. Quite a cheap hostel. Didn't like: The hostel feels very claustrophobic. Rooms are tiny and only have small windows. There is very little atmosphere at the hostel. It was very noisy at night especially with the bar downstairs.
Liked: location Didn't like: I don't intend to generalise .. One female reception staff was very rude and abrupt. The following day I was looked after by another staff member which was ok.
Liked: Location, room was very nice and clean. Didn't like: Mosqitoes
Liked: Good location. Acommodation was not noisy. Didn't like: Kitchen was very small. Only 10 seats by table for fully booked hostel (maybe 50 customers). Not enough communal space.
Liked: Friendly helpful staff, clean facilities and cool tv lounge with plenty of movie choice Didn't like: No lockers for valuables
Liked: Free 200mb wifi a day and dorm beds Didn't like: Nothing
Liked: Really helpful and friendly staff. Great bar adjoining accommodation with excellent home cooked style food which was good value for money. Bed was comfy and felt very clean. Bathroom tiny. Didn't like: Tiny washbasin - that's my only negative
