From Pile Gate, it’s a five-minute walk—add two more if your backpack turns the famous steps into leg day. Lokrum ferries, city walls entrance, and the grocery store are all under 300 meters.

As a solo female traveler, I felt secure day and night. The walled city stays well lit and patrolled, and crowds thin but never vanish. Angelina’s door has a bright sign, so no late-night guessing games in dark alleys.

Key-card controls the front door after 10 p.m., dorm rooms, and individual lockers. CCTV watches entrance and common areas.

Staff live on-site and gladly walk solo guests to Pile Gate if they feel uneasy.

The female dorm sits on its own landing with an extra door—nice buffer from mixed-room traffic.

Price – Wallet-Kind Inside the Walls

Cooking one or two meals in the kitchen offset the higher nightly rate, and I saved transport money by being steps from everything.

Friend-making is effortless on the terrace, yet curtains and cool stone guarantee privacy when needed. I docked one point for the unavoidable staircase climb (welcome to Dubrovnik), but trust me—your calves will forgive you at sunset.

Pro tip: Beds disappear fast for summer and cruise-ship weekends. Book early, pack light (those steps!), and bring reusable water bottles—tap water is drinkable and cold.
