Faunal Reviews

Description

FAUNAL is a small private nature reserve in the foothills of La Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, in north Colombia. This area is a refuge for different animal and vegetal species, with several trails to walk and watch fauna and the right environment to relax and enjoy nature contact.

FAUNAL is surrounded by forest and all its habitants, We have documented the presence of more than 150 bird species inside the reserve including four endemics (unique to la Sierra). It’s common the presence of different amazing bird species like beautiful keel-billed toucans, crimson-crested woodpeckers and lots of tanagers and colorful hummingbirds. We also have reported the presence of several interesting mammals, such as Nine-banded armadillos, arboreal porcupines and howler monkeys. Our intention is to protect all this environmental richness in the best way possible while living and sharing this habitat with them.
The sierra nevada de santa marta is the biggest coast mountain system on the planet, with all the ecosystems present in colombia with the highest peaks of the country, is a refuge for all kind of living things and one of the most important places on earth to conserve birds and wildlife in general because it shelters some unique species mainly of birds and amphibians.
