Being the 4th largest city in Russia, Yekaterinburg (which used to be named Sverdlovsk) is also the capital of the Ural region and home to a population of over 1.3 million people. The city dates back as far as the early 18th century, when it was founded by Vasily Tatischev.

Yekaterinburg is served by Koltsovo airport. In addition to that, the great Trans-Siberian railway goes through Yekaterinburg, and this is a very common way for people to travel to the city. The local train network connects you with nearby towns and cities if you want to take daytrips to them. Your best option for getting around the city central is the public transport system, which includes trams, buses, trolleybuses, and a metro. Of those choices, the tram system is easily the best option.
